Spawn is kinda like a cult classic, it was pretty awesome back in the late '90s. Michael Sheen's overacting and the terrible TERRIBLE CG effects, esp Hell and the Satan bat are laughably great.

It was a movie made for a certain kind of audience. Perhaps more of a female audience. It wasn't what it needed to be, I guess. I think I could lop the first quarter off and start the movie a bit more aggressively and maybe find a way to start the movie with the jet disaster sequence or something. I could have grabbed the audience a little more quickly. I don't know what would have helped. Probably nothing. If I could go again, I would do an origin. I would reboot it.

The ratings for this flick are wrong though...it's a 76% on RT while Man of Steel is a 55% and not even Bryan Singer would say Returns is better than MoS.

If Returns was seen as a great movie then MoS would have never been made...they would have just kept going forward with Brandon Routh

It's high ratings can probably be attributed to simply being the first Superman movie to come out since Reeve.

Superman Returns butchered the character.

Making him a deadbeat dad, creepy ex-bf stalker, and made him oddly boyish / feminine. Well not odd considering it was directed by Singer, and his homo lovers wrote the script.

With that said ... there are tons of worse comic book movies. This one was just an out of touch circle jerk to Donner's '78 Superman, and had little action. Films like:

I rather have got Tim Burton's canceled, bizarre 1998 Superman Lives film then the one we recieved in 2006. A boring re-make essentially of the very first Superman movie, only with a kid.

The plane rescue sequence however is one of the best superhero action scenes put to film. Easily. That's the only reason to watch this movie IMO.
