Probably not. That $hit spiked up like crazy in the week after the IPO, but things seem to have stagnated. That isn't to say that it's a bad stock, but if you are trying to capitalize it might be a bit too late.

hell no. in the age of the smartphone you should not be investing in a camera manufacturer.

no. you have to understand stocks run on speculation. think to yourself how big GoPro has become, how long ago did it become this fad, and at what point did everyone become aware of it?
you had to get in before that.
not to say it can still go up, but oftentimes it will push back to make up for overhype as well.
stocks is more psychological, thinking what the masses are thinking that are investing, and oftentimes jumping in when its already a known fad is way too late.

just think about the general direction of where the economy is headed first. if it appears to be expanding, than you know that stocks in general will be growing. then all you have to do is differentiate between with more wealth what will people be purchasing more.
if we go from a bad state of economy to good, then clearly cheap substitute goods will still be in large demand, while few selective luxury goods may pick up. if we go from a good state of economy, to near peak-pre recession level, than it would be a good time to decide what are the substitute goods people aren't going to run away from, nessecities type stuff.
during a recession, hold on to a few elements that drives our living cost up, as well as commodity, unless you want to leave the market completely (not a terrible idea if commission is just a fraction of your cost)
I look at stock picking in terms of demand/market share. some demands won't go away, some market shares are falling.
this is a sh*t general free advice by the way.

thinking how the masses are overreacting is really the psychological element of it all.

its the whole game
yeah economy doing well or bad is a general trend of overall stocks and has affects. Was great during the recession because the swings weree so predictable based on good/bad world news and money was so much easier to make.

If predicting stocks is as easy as predicting an unknown band/artist to have a radio hit or become famous, then I'd be a multimillionaire by now.
Me too, listened to Taylor Swift before she even had a single out and told everyone she'd be a superstar.
Damn I wish people were stocks.:(

Nope, ship has sailed. I KNEW Tesla would blow up when I was younger but had like 0 dollars to my name. It's still gonna go up a lot in 2017 with the intro of Model E I think, but they aren't an easy company to invest in right now.

thinking about el pollo loco my next stock watch
too much competition these days in that style of food imo.
trying to think what the chain one is around me but its pretty dead. its El Pollo something with yellow and something colors where they serve some bad tasting fried chicken too. the local mom and pop peruvian chicken joints, even one that is highly rated around me, just have way too much competition.

I don't like to give people investing advice as it immediately becomes your fault if they lose money and if they make money it was their idea all along but I am NOT buying into El Pollo Loco at all. Feel free to do you though.

It won't be the next Chipotle but I would purchase LOCO. They just had their IPO and have gotten off to a decent start. In a year from now once they post several quarters of solid earnings look for their stock to gradually increase. I'm not a shareholder in LOCO but I am long biased on it. I'd say buy it. Also, only a small amount of their available shares have been offered to the public. This will create a lot of hype and increase demand on limited supply once quarterly earnings come out.

There is speculation and there is investing, and they are very different.
If you study up and get a good grasp on investing (not speculation) international markets you have a great chance of making a lot of money. If you want to gamble, then throw money on penny stocks and win huge before you see it go down the drain.
You invest in a stock not so it jumps up $15 dollars or 30% in a day. I mean, that's great and all, but you shouldn't be looking for stocks that are going to do that. You should be investing looking 10, 15, 20 years into the future. Not where you can make a quick buck, you need to look at the places that are going to be worth much more a few decades down the road.
Emerging markets, technology industry, medical devices, alternative energy, and biotech/pharma are all industries that are going to undergo massive expansion over the next 20 years or so.

this advice only works with large sums of capital to invest, otherwise its extremely petty profit margins. the only reason someone with a few thousand should be doing that is to get a grasp of the market imo.
there IS money in penny stocks, and if you want to make REAL money the stock market is in a lot of ways like gambling...altho trends and reading up knowing you're not investing into a failing, shitty company that sounds nice inn theory is very important as well.
Its VERY easy to make money for people who have loads of capital which is why rich white people make most of their money from the stock market and just live easy investor lives generally speaking.....at the higher end the more money you have the safer and higher your returns will be...and its a bit overrated IMO in terms of their 'business know-how' like they're just smart....nah they're just rich IMO. its not that hard...to me this is one of the biggest basis for inequities between rich/poor because the stock market is extremely favorable to the rich.
its just most people especially here have nowhere near that type of cash.

I'm not sure becauae I haven't seen that information yet. (Briefly researching and see that they lost money last few years but figures unknown past three years). With that said, LOCO already said that the funding from the IPO is going to pay down debts. Investors love that and plus, the future is bright for LOCO. Management envisions thousands of stores to open up. There's definitely some interest there. Their past is not going to deter their future. But memo to netsfan - this is a long-term stock. Hold for 3-6 years. PPS could definitely be $100 to $120. Mexican food establishments that go public are a hot commodity and exhibiting similar results.

yup, I think in the coming years they are going to start opening up more restaurants. El pollo loco food is good and they make it right in front of you. My only fear is I just hope they don't turn into next pollo tropical.
