When you look at Kobe and his production he is closer to Tracy McGrady and Allen iverson. Lebron and jordan are the most dominant perimeter players in history

Kobe's is already on MJ's level. If there was a Batman, there is a Joker. Pretty much equals but on a different spectrum.
Also, they have played each other too. So when MJ says Kobe is close or equal to him. We have to take his word for it.

If you were old enough to watch back in the days, you would know the WCF was the Finals.
Nobody in the East could beat them Lakers. Heck, look at the Centers for the East. Kobe was chasing around Kidd, Kittles, Reggie and Iverson. Yes, Shaq was dominant but so was Kobe and he had to go against better players than Shaq.

Yeah the reason no one was beating the lakers was because of shaq averaging close to 40 ppg kobe would always choke and underperform

Basketball skill-wise? Fer sure.
Overall greatness? Nah. Michael Jordan was the perfect storm (skill, genetic gifts, and plain old luck).
>Freak athleticism and huge hands (highest recorded vert in NBA at 48")
>Elite BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Flawless fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaches (Dean Smith AND Phil Jackson)
There've been many NBA players with some combination of the above, but none with all of them. It gets trickier when you consider that the bottom two traits:
>GOAT Tier Coaches (Dean Smith AND Phil Jackson)
>Competent Front Office
can be completely out of your control.
Lebron James (when he came in the Cavs):
>Freak athleticism
>Good BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Decent fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaches
During Miami:
>Freak athleticism
>Elite BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Good fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates
>Competent Front Office
>Good Coaches
Kobe Bryant:
>Freak athleticism
>Good BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Great fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaching
Dwight Howard (Heh):
>Freak athleticism
>Elite BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaches

Basketball skill-wise? Fer sure.
Agreed. Though there are still skillful aspects Kobe isn't on MJ's level at ... off ball movement, catch and shoot. Isn't as great, or consistent a defender. There still is some separation besides athleticism. Though it takes a more keen eye to detect. Let's not forget a better IQ, quicker attacker, and a better leader / teammate.
MJ:
>Freak athleticism and huge hands (highest recorded vert in NBA at 48")
>Elite BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Flawless fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates ('96 - '98)
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaches (Dean Smith AND Phil Jackson)
Prime LeBron:
>Freak athleticism
>Elite BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Good fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates (Great Teammates 2011 - 2013)
>Competent Front Office
>Good Coaches
Prime Kobe Bryant:
>Freak athleticism
>Good BBIQ
>Ferocious competitiveness
>Good fundamentals
>Pretty good teammates (Great Teammates 2000 - 2004)
>Competent Front Office
>GOAT Tier Coaching

how about we put it this way, lebron is closer to sucking more cocks than kobe is. this way kobe fans are happy because those ccoks aren't nba cocks and lebron fans are happy thinking kobe fans think that they don't think lebron fans think that those are nba cocks. but in fact, those are nba cocks. but eventuall lebron is sucking nba cocks. so no one is happy but kobe because lebron is sucking cocks.

lebron is closer to hakeem than anyone else right now.. and hakeem is around #10 all time
kobe is closer to magic than anyone else right now. and magic is around 5th all time
so i'd say kobe is 6th all time
lebron is 11th all time
its about rings by legends... not # of mvps by legends who lucked out a ring
moses malone is proof of this
and if it was all about stats then iverson would be a top 10 player all time and shareef abdur rahim would be a hall of famer

Jordan jumped way higher and had better explosion off vertical which was a big advantage in traffic... Kobe is pretty good of a vertical too - and both those guys had the physique that was conducive for scoring effectively in traffic, where their vertical ability was neeeded.
In contrast, Lebron is actually only okay off a vertical and his physique is not conducive for mitigating defenders in traffic... Here's Lebron off a drop-step (one-step vertical), where he gets stuffed on a game winning attempt and the Heat lost... He didn't have good explosion.

Whereas, in the same spot, Jordan drop-steps with a lot more lift and explosion.

Lebron going up weak off two feet after jumpstop.. can't dunk..

In terms of size, playing style, attitude, and GOAT status, Kobe is closer to Jordan than Lebron. Kobe's resume is epic and only has to take a backseat to MJ perimeter player wise. But Lebron is still building his resume and one day could pass Kobe by.
In terms of style of play, Jordan and Bron aren't that similar. What they have in common is freak athletic ability and both were the most transcendant players of their era. Playing style wise, Bron is like a mix of Magic, Big O, Dr. J, and Pippen. And he had the body of Karl Malone which makes Lebron the ultimate freak of nature. A key advantage that guys like Bron, Magic, and Bird have over MJ and Kobe is the fact that they can play a power position in addition to the perimeter. Which bodes well for them as the age.

Jordan had a 48" vert. Kobe was at 38". Lebron's at 44". I actually didn't know it was that different until i did some research.

No, not through traffic. But with his speed, mass, and agility relative to his size it's hard for people to stop him too. Reminded me of Barkley on the fast break back then.
Jordan mitigates defenders in traffic better than anyone else. Aside from his strength and speed it was his large hands (his adv. over Kobe which PJ and Kobe admitted was a significant adv). With those hands he could jump into defenders while his arm would weave around defenders while holding the ball like an orange.
That would be impossible to do with 'normal' sized hands.
Check it @ 7:45, watch two plays in a row. Olajuwon is right in his chest and he almost casually lays in the ball.

Everyone steals everyone's moves in the NBA. There is so much a person can do since the inception of the game. Everything can be done in a couple of eras and we are many eras in.
Wiz MJ was stealing 3peat Kobe's moves when he made his comeback. Heck, he modeled his game after what was successful at the time.

Didn't MJ draft Kwame #1, Felton #5, Adam Morrison #3, Brandan Wright at #8 before Joakim Noah, MKG at #2 over Beal, Lillard, Drummond, Waiters and Cody Zeller at #4 over Noel, MCW and Burke. Also, he never played LeBron while he played a prime Kobe numerous times while MJ was washed-up.

I think MJ thinks it's plausible. Game recognize game. I still think MJ would win, with his superior athleticism, huge hands and 10 inch vertical differential, but as an individual b-ball player, in terms of moves, skills and footwork, Kobe's on GOAT tier.

Yeah, he's skilled and athletic but it's those hands, man. It's absolutely impossible to do those layins without big hands.
The hands essentially give him another dimension to score from. Doc J had massive hands too. You remember his famous layup from around the back of the backboard? If he had smaller hands he would've been forced to pass it or just fall out of bounds.
