I'm looking for movies that really gets you thinking, sort of like a "wtf just happened moment" and you need to pause everything and make sense of everything that just happened.

examples: Inception, Primer

Tree of Life really stuck with me for a couple weeks after I watched it. Also, Place Beyond the Pines had some heavy themes in there along with a cool format that made me think.

The more I think about Inception now that it's older the more I think that it is pretty shallow. A lot less depth than it was aiming for I think.

I would sort of like to see Mr Nobody again because I saw it while my brain was scattered from a hangover so I basically didn't follow any of it. I doubt I'll get around to it tho.

It's not a WTF movie at all.

But to this day I love talking about The Matrix and the theories surrounding it. My cousin and I spent a full 2 hours one time just talking about it.

And I'm including the sequels. They were shit no doubt, and sort of ruined what I built in my head, but the laziness and ridiculousness of them actually opened up more questions for me. And in things like this with plot holes I actively try to fill them, and since I was such a big fan of the first film I go overboard with this series.

The original Matrix has alot of good theories surrounding it and it's basically up to the viewer to decide that.. For example what if we are living in a Matrix, some sort of controlled universe that has already happened and we are living it or if we are just a some type of experiment, etc. Great movie although I stopped watching after the second one.

OP, if you really want WTF movies watch movies made by David Lynch, possibly the GOAT director at WTF movies. When I watched Mulholland Drive I still didn't know wtf happened after reading the synopsis, spoilers and analysis of the movie for an hour.

Memento and The Prestige. Both Nolan films like Inception. If you liked that you'll love these two.

Memento will have you thinking the whole time what the **** is going on while The Prestige is more of a build up...but if you pay attention very closely while watching you could piece some things together before they happen.

Edit: Also check out The Departed if you haven't seen it yet.

No mention of Revolver? That movie had me thinking for a couple hours. Raised lot of questions about my own personality and the difference between the "real you" and that voice in your head.

Remined me of Eckhart Tolle's books. When you just stop and observe your own thoughts from the sidelines you realize how your perception manipulates you at times.

I mean how can you be chillin and relaxing and smokin da pot one minute and then go out and get arrested and put in jail? I mean how man, how man, how? I mean how the hell does that happen. And then you find out that your friends got this awesome dog that can fly and do all this awesome shit and Killa Da Dog doesn't even come to rescue you. WTF man. And on top of all this Nasty Nate is eye phuking you every day and Squirl Man is short on time. Where's my protection man. Get me the phuk out.

I can certainly see why it is polarizing. Definitely a WTF movie either way though.

Maybe you'd appreciate it more if you watched this explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9AWkqRwd1I#aid=P9lclTaxp_g

Very different explanation and makes way more sense than your explanation, but very intriguing if you have the patience to watch a long explanation of a movie you didn't enjoy.

Either way, I can see it being polarizing.

Other than the ones already mentioned like Synedoche, NY and The Tree Of Life, I'd throw in Upstream Color (made by Shane Carruth, who made Primer).

I'd also throw in Eternal Sunshine For The Spotless Mind just because it's one of the most brilliant and creative films ever made and everyone should see it.

Isnt Synedoche, NY the one about that dude that has that play in a warehouse that basically keeps going for years and years and becomes its own little world?! That actually looked really interesting
That got old quick. Didn't finish watching.
