The Los Angeles Lakers are considering signing free-agent forward Michael Beasley and brought in the six-year veteran for a workout at their El Segundo, California, practice facility Wednesday, according to multiple sources.

"[Beasley] looked very good and he has been working out," one source said. "A tiny rust from layoff, but [he] did a good job."

The former No. 2 pick in the 2008 draft averaged 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game for the Miami Heat last season. While Beasley showed improvement from his previous season when he played with the Phoenix Suns, upping his shooting percentage from 40.5 to 49.9 percent and his 3-point percentage from 31.3 to 38.9 percent, he was out of Miami's rotation by the playoffs, appearing in just four of the Heat's 20 postseason games on their run to the NBA Finals.

Beasley, 25, has already played for three teams -- Miami, Phoenix and Minnesota -- during his relatively short career. He has career averages of 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

This isn't the first time the Lakers have expressed interest in the 6-foot-10, 235-pound small forward. The Lakers attempted to trade for Beasley twice during the 2011-12 season, when he played for the Timberwolves, but both deals fell through, the second just minutes before the trade deadline expired.

Beasley would give Los Angeles some added depth at the small forward position. Wes Johnson, who re-upped for another season with the Lakers this summer, is the only true 3 on their roster, with Xavier Henry, Nick Young and Kobe Bryant, and possibly even Julius Randle and Ryan Kelly, able to play out of position to fill the role.

The Lakers currently have 12 players under contract, a number that will rise to 13 when they settle on terms with second-round draft pick Jordan Clarkson.

Beasley is still good. For a min contract he could be sixth man of the year given the minutes.

Agreed. I don't think they make the playoffs but given good health they can surprise some teams out there and make a good showing during games.

if undersized is terrible then yes, but Hill is a decent player and he will be playing center

Lin/Nash/Clarkson
Kobe/Xavier/Johnson
Young/Beasley/Johnson
Boozer/Randle/Hill
Hill/Davis/Sacre

That's honestly not a bad lineup..if Kobe can return to 80-85% of who he was pre-achilles injury, they could be a 44-46 win team. Nothing exceptional, but a decent team.

If they had kept Pau even though he sucks. The team would be complete. Not undersized at all.

The Lakers lineup is not that bad for the coming season. Problem is 'not that bad' in the West = lottery. They'd be pushing for a playoff spot out East but I don't see them getting over the kind of teams out West that they need to barring a few big injuries to key teams (while not getting him themselves)

if you practice the winning way with this squad, their record will be terrible.

if you want this team to just go out there and steal a few wins to look good this season because the coaches job is on the line, they can be that 9th/10th seed team.

Nick Young

Hawks should sign him.
We can offer say 2.5 million.
We need scoring at small forward badly.

This is exactly the type of low risk possible rewarding without chewing up roster flexibility a team in the Lakers' situation should be making.

And if any of these guys play well this year, on their limited contracts, it'd be worth pushing to trade them to a contender looking for reinforcements if you can land a later first, early second, or young player.

not bad. Are there any decent big men left to sign and play center?

I can't imagine the lakers would try to get Bynum back ha ha.

Ekpe Udoh for defense.
Elton Brand for hustle.

That team just lacks a true #2 an #3 too badly to make the playoffs. They're like Dallas if they lost Chandler and Parsons.

Spo needs to be blamed for not playing Beasley. Beasley was the only Heat who could score against San Antonio outside of LeBron. Miami should re-sign him. Damn...

If the Lakers sign B-Easy, this team will be a hoot to watch. Sure, they might not accomplish much, but it will just be way too entertaining.

Kobe on a mediocre/bad team at the end of his career = 30 PPG? :kobe:

Lakers thinking big netted them small. I was really hoping they gonna go ahead and get Asik but they went for a big swing. It would have been nice to have someone that can anchor the team defensively. Well there's always next year. I'm just hoping Randle can be an impact player.

Id consider beasley as a 7th 8th guy in the rotation, when the bench is going through a scoring drought. but only if the lakers cant work something out with signing ramon sessions to run the bench squad

I don't like it.

Beasley is talente but he's a headcase.

A roster full of average/good guys only works if all of them are mentally strong and they play as a unit.

Maybe if Kobe was in preinjury form, he could have rallied them together, but he's going to be limited.

They need guys like Fisher and Diaw...role players who are dependable and KNOW their roles.

Wishing the best for the Lakers next season, but my expectations are no so good.

I think the franchise player wiuld be julius randle going forward

Hes realistically the 2nd best player from the 2014 draft.. dunno how he dropped to 7th

3 years from now he'l be averaging 22/11/4

Jordan Hill, given the chance, could be a top 3 center in the league.
He was better than Dwight and Pau when he played with them.
Completely different types of hustle and defense. And his offense is quite nice too

No, he looked really good in patches this season. Though he didn't get consistent playing time he clearly upped his game last season, defended well a lot of the time, and was a very effective scorer. Could have been utilised more by a rigid and inflexible Spo.

These highlights are pretty impressive for a guy who 'barely played any minutes':

This. Beasly is good. Certainly worth the vet minimum. :oldlol:

And I know it was the Heat as a team, but he was highly efficient in his appearances. Someone give this kid a shot. And Beasly needs to stop fvcking around as well. If he was a hard worker he would be a great player.

Lakers aren't doing shit this year so you may as well give him the chance to shine seeing as he has a shitload more talent than swaggy p
