They should probably withdraw from basketball all together. It can happen anywhere anytime if you're playing ball. Granted, you want to mitigate those risks unless you're getting paid for it but this could've happened in practice.

Is there any way to prevent these injuries? Why do they happen? Is there any literature on the subject? Does it have anything to do with childhood nutrition?

he needs to make sure he keeps it stable so it heals in place and then strengthen the tendons and work out the inflammation and scar tissue. Might take 6 months to a year.

micro fractures in your bones from workouts that you dont allow time to heal, so they fracture more until making a play like that causes it to completely snap.

the team practiced 4 days in a row with this game at the tail end. never had a day to rest from their workout.

I think they need to move the goals back.

That's exactly how Nerlens injured himself, chasing down a lay up.

For that matter, they need to move everyone off the baselines. Cameras too.

The base of the hoop looks like it was really close to the baseline, where in the NBA there's a lot more space under the rim. I don't think he would have broken his leg had his foot not gotten pinned at the base of the padding. Someone needs to fix that.

Pacers will likely void his contract extension and he's obviously out this year. Maybe the Lakers can get him

"Tim Hewett, director of sports medicine research at Ohio State University agreed. He speculated that Ware's diet could have been deficient in vitamin D and calcium leading to more porous bones. That, combined with the constant pounding Ware endured through an entire season of basketball, may have created small stress fractures in the tibia and fibula bones in his lower leg, causing his bone to snap when he took a bad step."

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/kevin-wares-broken-leg-possibly-caused-undetected-stress/story?id=18854412#.UVq5VBn1tFs

If this really is part of the cause, they should screen players to see if they're deficient in Vitamin D so they can take supplements.

He's obviously never gonna be the same after this. Just look at what it did for Sid. He could never compete at the same level. Pacers have all the right to void the contract, George never received permission to play.

So the year after Kobe retires we got

Bledsoe / Clarkson
George / Jackson
Durant / Ariza / Roberts
Randle / ???
Love / Sacre

If he's not gonna be the same then why do you want him so bad?

There is zero chance they would release him. If anything they'll suck and use the nice draft pick they get to draft a PG. West and Hill will be coming off the books.

Pacers will have an entirely new team next season.

Usually I don't think along these lines....but in all reality and honestly what is the point of the USA going out every 2 years and whooping ass? Obviously we have the best basketball players in the world. No shit. This ain't soccer or something competitive. I know our teams have failed in the past, but when it's a cohesive team...it's not even close.

anyone who is talking crap about PG and this injury doesn't belong on this site

now saying that in the Australian football I have seen the EXACT same injury 2 times happen.....

Time frame is around 12 months to recover from this.. no way he plays next season...

on the 2 occasions I have seen this happen.. one player came back as only a shadow of what he was previously... he was also in the second half of his career so maybe he was declining anyways..

the second player was around 22/23 years old... took a year to recover and came back pretty decent.. but he did lose abit... he still wasn't the same player...

Man shit like this is horrible.. no matter what team you follow

I seen this exact injury happen right in front of me during a tourney. When the guys leg broke it sounded like styrofoam snapping in half. He let out a piercing scream for a few seconds then went into shock.

We all felt sick to our stomachs. Our game was next and it was played at such a slow pace. No one wanted to go all out.

Man I hope PG recovers but I hear that some people end up with a permanent limp from a clean leg break like that.

It was quite a circus when him and Behanan were constantly being 'indefinitely' suspended and then coming back in a week.

So how much of this is truth (about Ware) and how much of this is a Kentucky fan's sensationlized rambling?

My brother was close with the basketball team. That, and one of the equipment managers was my brother's friend who we went to high school with.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kevin Ware missed a court appearance Monday morning for reckless driving and speeding in Barren County, and questions have arisen regarding the car he was driving when he was ticketed.

A Kentucky State Police officer clocked Ware doing 95 mph in a 2013 Dodge Challenger as he drove through a construction zone on I-65 South on Oct. 26, according to documents obtained from the Barren County Circuit Court clerk. Ware's court appearance was rescheduled for next Monday.

Chane Behanan now has to move on with his life, as he's been kicked out of the Louisville basketball program. What will his next step be? The talented former Cardinals forward has a future in pro basketball, but he could opt to transfer within the college ranks and finish up his career there, still. He's currently a junior, and there are options -- albeit strictly outside of the ACC and AAC.

But first? Behanan's going to take care of himself and head to Houston. He's going to work with former NBA coach John Lucas and take some time at Lucas' rehabilation facility, the John Lucas Treatment and Recovery Center.

Louisville is a small city. People talk. My brother was a financial aid counselor at UL for several years, and I played pick up ball with him at the SAC and saw these guys on several occasions. Its not a mystery.

Ware was dismissed from the team in July (the summer after his broken leg) for multiple team violations. UL spokespeople, when asked, would not deny it, instead stating that he was on the team 'as of now'.

He then was pulled over for doing 95 in a 55, which happened to be a construction zone, in a Dodge Challenger owned by a former student (which got C.J. Leslie suspended for 3 games when he was in school), and then instead of informing the team, simply ignored his court date and had a warrant issued.

He's a model citizen.

UL hasn't had a one and done in years, if ever.

It's a really dark situation right now..but honestly with the compound fracture if it's a clean break, it should be less severe long-term than a ligament/tendon injury right? There's the chance for nerve complications and infections and all that but with the level of care these pro athletes get he should be fine. Right now it's more gruesome visually than it is medically relative to other series injuries like ACL tears and achilles ruptures. It's awful, but a bone injury is much better than what it could've been. All in all it'll come down to his mentality coming back from the injury and his work ethic to return physically to who he was before..and from what we've seen from him, I think he'll be okay.

That's a compound fracture no doubt. Yikes.

Not unless the bone pierced the skin it isn't a compound fracture FYI

Do I think too much about money if the first thing that i thought after looking at the video was that it was going to get at least 2-3 million viewers at least which means around $10-15k minimum?

Do you honestly believe that they make ~$300 per video?

I feel terrible for him, the organization and the fans. This after losing Lance...Damn! God willing, he'll be back on the court in 2 years, strong.

I remember how I felt when Ewing went down. One of the reasons I don't begrudge players going after every red cent. Stay strong, Indiana.

Pacers will likely void his contract extension and he's obviously out this year. Maybe the Lakers can get him

They can't do that. His money is guaranteed.

In cases like this, insurance will pay a portion of his contract money in the event that he can't perform for a while. Makes no sense for Indiana to try to do anything until they see how he recovers.

If around 70% of your viewers are from 1st world countries then you make anything from 5k-10k depending on the topic of your video. NBA videos have a really good ad click/watch rate compared to coding related videos as most nba viewers don't have plugins to block ads.
Most nba videos would get you $5-7k per million viewers at least.

My bad. I don't even know why I said $300. :facepalm
