Title.

Note: without pop, parker and ginobili wouldn't be as good, as well as the other notably good role players (kawhi, diaw).

I say 2 at the most.

Duncan carried the Spurs to the 99 and 03 titles.

Pop didn't really become one of the greatest coaches until like 2005 or 06.

Not sure, but definitely more than LeBron would have without Wade or Bosh.

So you agree the same as Lebron has won with Bosh and Wade. Mind you 03 was with a rookie Manu and 2nd year, 20 year old Parker - kinda the same situation Lebron's in now and no one expects Lebron to win next year. Let that sink in.

2 for sure but who does he play for and with after that?

Why are people acting as if Duncan was the one who turn the Spurs franchise around? It's NBA basketball, not NCAA basketball. In the NBA, it's more about the players than the coach. You telling me that Spo is big reason why the Heat won back-to-back? LMAO!

BTW, Duncan wasn't the one who lost Game 6 in 2013, that was 100% on Pop.

Um, because LeBron would have 0 without them. :hammerhead:

And without Pop for his Game 6 mental collapse, Spurs would actually be 3-0 against Bron lmfaoo. :lol :lol

Does he still have players like Robinson, Parker, Ginobli, Horry, Bruce Bowen, Kawhi, Patty Mills, Diaw to carry him to rings?

Without Pop and a stacked team no rings for sure

without pop but still having a stacked team maybe 1-2 rings

0 imho. Honestly, he'd be exposed as nothing more than a slightly more physically built Pau Gasol.

he still has his team, just no pop. And half those guys wouldn't develop without pop. Pop makes his team better, not Duncan.

You gonna tell me that Phil is the reason why the Bulls won 6 titles? He the reason why the Lakers won 5 titles during the 2000-10 decade?

Give me Top 10 All-Time players over GOAT coaches any day.

Not really interested in this debate because it's all conjecture, and everyone top 10 player had help.

But I'm surprised at how acclaimed (if that's the right word) the 99 team is. People talk as if it's close to being an all-time great team, which it wasn't. That squad had a one year window. Everyone was old outside of Duncan -- just look at how lost that 1999/2000 team was even with Duncan in the lineup, let alone when he was gone.

If Duncan didn't win in 03 his peak years would have been viewed differently. His best teammates at this time were rookie/sophomore Parker, who was an abysmal second option, broken down Robinson who basically missed the 02 postseason, and Derek Anderson who went down in 01 and who nobody remembers. And he still made a Conference Finals and won a ring with them, in one of the toughest conferences in league history.

Also, lebronxrings: you need to smarten up as a poster. Some of your posts are pretty well thought out and fair...then you start posting like debuta and the other inane LeBron stans. Manu and Parker developed because of Pop and Duncan. Just watch the 03 run and see how many touches Duncan gave those guys. He's called one of the best teammates of all time because he makes the game easier for others...they've all said it.

nah big difference. Mj and shaq actually impacted the team and created the offense in a sense. Duncan was more of a role player, where pops magical system demolished teams.

If I started a team, I would take pop over Duncan. If you switched Duncan and pau gasol, I say they still win around 4 rings.

Same number if not more. Remember when Pop took Duncan out on the postseason last year and the Heat got a crucial offensive rebound?

this is completely true

just a piece in a well oiled machine

look at the spurs offense, beautiful passing, screens, getting shooters open

Duncan is one person in a huge complex offensive system

Parker and Ginobili are obviously really talented and have shown to be so on the world stage as well. I think they still win 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007, but lose 2014.

respectfully disagree. Parker and ginobili wouldn't be as good in those games.

Which years do they win, exactly? Because if those teams are constructed the same way, they aren't close to being defensive juggernauts -- which is how they won their first three rings. Gasol/Nazr are gonna outplay Ben Wallace and Rasheed? Pau is gonna average 25/17/5/5 on the Nets, or 29 on the Lakers? 32 against the Mavs? :facepalm

Gasol, a guy who can't play on the road, will win 4 titles with the Spurs in Duncan's role. Really? :oldlol:
