View Full Version : Should we start over on the All-Time List?

I know people probably don't want to do this again, but if you are interested I'll start it over again. It's clear these threads have had too much agenda. We went through 3 threads alone today where voting was closed in like 20 minutes.
If you think yes, I'm going to post every winner's overall accolades and several pictures/.gifs. I'll keep track of the votes and update the number so people don't jump to conclusions that the thread is over and jump to the next one.
If you think yes, I will start at a specific time and the thread will be closed at the same time the following day.
I'm just considering this because we've had posters with negative rep and bad reputations doing this. Plus the list has been ****ed after tonight.

It's not gonna change a thing.
What exactly is wrong with the other one going on?

Those types of threads will almost never work on ISH. You would have to filter out the votes, and then how do you decide which votes to keep?

I'll have to rely on ISH posters with green rep and post here enough to tell me who the alts are. Otherwise I'll have to count their votes.

Also if it's like 1-2 votes close by the time I close the thread, I'll keep it going because it's too close to call.

Yes it most definitely should be. And I feel there should be a minimum post requirement for the vote to count.

I think the only way it'd be worth it is if you decide on a panel in advance (using whatever criteria you want, but voters must participate in all threads), and require some sort of explanation (maybe with character or word minimums, and some semblance of logic behind one's reasoning to avoid agendas). Otherwise, it's just be a repeat of russwest0's list and as such would be redundant.
Also, I know there was some confusion as to whether he was looking to select the best 10 ever or the greatest 10 ever. Maybe decide on that in advance as well (though obviously if everybody has the same criteria, it'd be very boring, so you don't want to be too strict).

Good comment.. Give reason, like a sentence or something, and it should be GREATEST. Since when do we do "best" ?

I prefer best since it requires more thinking and forces you to make tougher decisions. The issue with greater is that it could end up as a laundry list of accolades and box score stats. I don't know if people on here would get bored sooner than later with a best ever project, though, since it's more subjective.

Hmm thats true.. I'd love to hear the reasons on Kobe > LeBron when we go past Killer Instinct, Clutch Gene, 81 Points, phyve rangz, etc. broad bullshit like that.. But then again, they'd probably reel off all star games and all nba Teams...
Like greatest ever, but not depending on all star games and all nba Teams... That shouldnt be a factor at all. The big stuff defining your legacy are mvp's / finals mvp's.. rest is simply level of play, Team mates = does the ring Count make sense? etc..

maybe we should do a list with no active players? less ****ing agendas and recency effect. Maybe?

Not sure. Really, it's all subjective. Makes for a good read for sure though (I'm not sure how I feel about the actual rankings on RealGM, but we've had some great discussion).
We also don't have to pigeonhole ourselves into this theme either...something else like best/greatest playoff runs, offensive player of the year (don't think I've seen this one done), or even doing guards/forwards/centers separately could be fun.

It is.. definitely better than all star games..
But still far from the end all be all.
It's weird seing Kobe fans use it as reason to be above Hakeem or other bigs, when those guys only get 1 spot per Team and the Position was stacked in the 90's.. Like always, kind of irrelevant as its position based..
