Since 1985, there have only been 20 games where a player has made 10 or more threes in a single game. 9 of those 20 games have occurred since 2013.
I bet you someone will break Kobe's record this season.

Impressive shooting... but let's not entirely discount the impact of Shaq drawing doubles and Kobe getting wide open looks and or single coverage shot after shot.
On top of that, even in the damn video, the other guys on the top of the list at the time, two of them played with Shaq, Brian Shaw and Dennis Scott. Dennis Scott was playing with Shaq at the time of his record game but admittedly Shaw was not.
Point is... Shaq is underrated imo.

damn, he passed up an open 3 and he missed a wide open corner 3
and look how many of those 3s came off a feed or a play from Shaq

Must be the reason Kobe has 3 other games with 8+ three pointers in a game.
Without Shaq.

12 > 8... in fact... 12 is 150% of 8, but thanks for playing.
Of course Kobe can shoot... but to act like the dude didn't get a ton of open looks as a result of Shaq is disingenuous at best.

Kobe never got wide open looks. All the doubles Shaq got in the post came from someone else's man, never Kobe's. Kobe was never left open except by serious defensive miscues. Shaq and Kobe always saw doubles, but never from each other's man, unless it was Kobe driving the lane and drawing Shaq's defender and laying it off for a dunk for the big fella.
Team's did not double off either of them.
I remember that game well, heck of a performance... can't believe it was that long ago... sheesh.

It's pretty impressive that this record hasn't been broken considering how many players shoot threes in this era.

Donyell Marshall hitting 12 threes as well, in 9 minutes less
I remember when Caron Butler hit 8 threes in a quarter (or was it the half?) and didn't even really attempt anymore the rest of the way :facepalm

Kobe doesn't own the record either. He SHARES the record with Donyell Marshall who also hit 12 threes in a much more impressive performance.
Marshall:
38 pts/10 rebs/3 ast/ 2 stls/0 TOs on 0.864 TS% in 28 mins of playing time
Kobe:
45 pts/3 rebs/3 asts/1 stl/2 TOs on 0.791 TS% in 37 mins of playing time

The records give it to Kobe in terms of three-point shooting efficiency alone, which is fair to say.

Aw I remember Peja Drobnjak.
Sonics had a whole website called Drobnjak's Drobsmack. It was funny.

Uh, I just did. He was wide open for maybe 3 of the attempts. The rest were contested as well as they could be (though, I wouldn't personally put Radmanovic on him).

That's nothing. Some dude in the Philippines hit 19 threes back in the 90s. :lol
I think Curry or someone else will break the NBA record, the way teams are chucking 3s now.

Kobe is probably the most unstoppable player ever when he's on fire...im sort of surprised he only scored 45, considering he got 36 off of 3s alone...

but JR Smith taking 22 threes

In terms of three point shooting? I believe Marshall attempted more during his game.

I agree with people who said someone will eventually break it soon. JJ in this PHI game could've tried but he didn't play garbage time.

Credit where its due, only 2-3 of those threes were really directly due to shaq.
He does have an indirect presence, but Kobe basically deserves all the credit here.

Again, we didn't forget this at all. It was mentioned already in the thread. The books put Kobe Bryant as the record-holder first because he attempted one less shot to reach 12, and also he achieved the record before Marshall.
