View Full Version : My (mostly) troll proof ISH top 10 (already calculated)

Scoring was based on these top 10 lists by ISH posters: http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350073

The method was to take the top person from each person's list and count it as a vote. If that person's top person has already been elected to ISH ranking list, then their next choice is used as a vote. This method prevented making it a 1 on 1 match where posters were voting against players rather than simply voting for their actual selection. A few trolls continued putting their votes in, but it made no impact since they didn

I also took the liberties to calculate the list in a point system way, with #1 selections equaling 10 points, #2 equaling 9, and continuing until #10 equaling 1 point. This system is more likely to be influenced by people having agendas or alts (Examples: 1 poster put Kobe #1, 1 poster put LeBron #1, 1 poster had 9 posts in 2 years, and 1 poster had 28 posts in 4 years). Because of that I calculated the points twice, once including those obvious agenda and alt posters, and once without their votes. Either way, the ranking came out the same.

Here were the results (points in the parenthesis were including the obvious alts and agendas)

1 Michael Jordan = 317 (345)
2 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar = 301 (326)
3 Bill Russell = 251 (271)
4 Magic Johnson = 196.5 (216.5)
5 Wilt Chamberlain = 181 (206)
6 Larry Bird = 164.5 (181.5)
7 Tim Duncan = 150.5 (164.5)
8 Shaquille O’Neal = 134 (157)
9 Kobe Bryant = 77 (90)
10 Hakeem Olajuwon = 41.5 (50.5)
11 LeBron James = 37 (48)
12 Oscar = 2 (4)
13 Durant = 0 (1)
13 West = 0(1)

As you can see the order was mostly the same with the only tweak from the other ranking is switching Wilt and Magic at #4 and #5.

Everytone in the top 10 has at least a winning record in the Finals. Lebron doesn't.

I won't be doing any re-dos because it defeats the point of people not knowing I was going to tally votes off lists. My main goal was to find a way to get a general consensus without ISH knowing I was going to tally.

Then why would Kobe be? Carried to his first three, then Gasol comes along and takes the reigns.

Kobe himself dreads Duncan getting more rings. He knows that was his only leverage. :oldlol:

I would have let it go if it was continuously active, but it had slipped all the way to page 3 so I assumed people were done with it.

It's cool it's your poll but, since your calculations, around 15 new lists have been submitted.

Yeah, they were added because of this thread, and I haven't looked them over, but I imagine some were trying to intentionally sway things knowing they were now used for generating the list in the OP.

Yep, just looked them over and there are certainly more ridiculous lists after this thread was posted.
