we get many threads about "goat" individual performances in the finals, but all i really see are lists of VOLUME scoring totals.

how about on the defensive end? you know, where championships are won?

1969 Finals:

Bill Russell holds Wilt well below his averages (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzNDGI7mmog)

1995 Finals:
Hakeem 7 blocks and holds Ewing to 7/29 shooting (Gm 3) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkY4zbnevV8)

1991 Finals:

Scottie Pippen puts Magic in a VICE GRIP (Gm 2)

1996 Finals: Gary Payton holds Jordan to games of 6/19 shooting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy6uigdabDs) and 5/19 shooting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-9ezKk1arA)

Scottie Pippen was buzzing John Stockton like an annoying gnat in the backcourt, filling the passing lanes the way Coach Jerry Sloan wishes his players would and taking a charge from Karl Malone under the basket. On the next Utah Jazz possession, Pippen caused more havoc.

''He is probably the only guy in basketball who draws offensive fouls anymore,'' Sloan said today. ''He had a ton of them last night, I think eight or nine. That was about as good a display of being able to step up and take a charge as you'll see.''

Antoine Carr, the veteran Jazz forward, added, ''Scottie is everywhere.''

Pippen, a roving linebacker in high-tops, is using the finals to reaffirm his position as the game's most complete and chaos-inspiring defensive player. On Sunday night, he was largely responsible for the lowest scoring total in National Basketball Association history since the advent of the shot clock, when the Chicago Bulls pulverized the Jazz, 96-54, to take a two-games-to-one lead in the four-of-seven-game series.

Pippen roamed the floor, spreading his 6-foot-7-inch angular body from player to player on the Jazz roster. Twenty-six Utah turnovers and an unprecedented finals rout later, everyone wanted to know how one player could cause such disruption.

His stat line of 10/4/4 would never tell the story.

Geez, that game was a bloodbath. Both teams shot poorly because it was a grinding affair. Very good game to watch.

Dont forget Kobe scored 10 points in the 4th quarter (when the game was won) and grabbed 15 boards in that game which was decided by rebounding.

Pippen harassing Magic in '91 was pretty damn impressive. Probably my favorite performance.

I'm sure ray allens game 6 tying shot is not considered world class. Double standards and delusional, classic traits for bran tards.

Diaw's defense on Lebron, he defended him so well he left only 5 feet between himself and Lebron. Tight-defense doesn't get any better than this:applause: :applause:

They put the rookie Kawhi on him in game 7. Luckily he improved over the past season and put the shackles on Lebron. Only 6 feet between Kawhi and Lebron this time around, he's leaving absolutely no room to breath:applause: :applause:

In 1994, in 1994 he became the only player in NBA history to win the MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season after beating Ewing in the finals.

In 1995, Hakeem embarrassed Robinson in WCF and swept young Shaq in the finals.
