View Full Version : Kyrie an "inarguable lock" to make team USA.

There are, on this scorecard, only five inarguable roster locks in the wake of the Durant news from the 15 still-here finalists: Anthony Davis, James Harden, Derrick Rose, Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving. So you can safely presume Coach K wants (and needs) more data to sort out the rest.

I'll predict the final twelve to be:

PG: Rose/Irving/Lillard
SG: Harden/Curry
SF: Gay/Hayward/Korver
PF: Faried/Parsons
C: Davis/Cousins

edit: I only had 11 before haha

I would be shocked if Korver and Faried aren't there.

Just lovely, 3 scoring point guard , a 2 guard plus Davis.

Lack of big man depth. Dubeta ruined everything.

 He's clearly the worst of the remaining PGs..

The guys who performed well in the scrimmage should get the benefit of the doubt in making the cut.

Rose/Curry/Irving
Thompson/Harden/Derozan
Derozan/Gay/Korver
Davis/Faried/Gay
Cousins/Drummond/Davis

I still like that lineup.

I didn't known Gay was added to the team. He is a good replacement for Durant and was good as his back-up in 2010. He is like a Durant lite.

Am I the only one to think that LeBron coming to the Cavs made it so USA wants Kyrie more? It instantly made him more marketable.

They're prepping him to play a larger role in the future. He impressed in 2012 on the select team, so he's been a candidate since then.

Two years ago, Jerry Colangelo said, “He’s that far advanced in terms of his talent, it appears. He’s made a good showing here. He had a terrific rookie season in the NBA and certainly he will be one of the leading candidates going forward.”

Curry is going to have to be the one taking the majority of FGA with Durant being gone.

I'd start him over Rose with Durant being out.

They are going to have some serious problems with depth, which is why Irving helps.

Rose/Irving/Cousins is one of those line ups where I feel comfortable playing Parsons/Hayward together with them.

If they want a chance at winning Gold, I feel like building a lead in the beginning of 2nd quarter, as well as coming out of the 3rd quarter strong is the key to it all.

Davis/Cousins/Gay is one of those line up where I stash in my playbook, hoping never have to go there, but if I can put the game away by stopping the opposing team from having a run, I might just try it.

I have only thought of Spain as our main competitor and haven't looked much into another international squads.

That guy.

Here's a glimpse of what Kyrie was doing in 2012 on the select team:

PG- Rose/Kyrie
SG- Curry/Thompson
SF- Harden/Parsons/Korver
PF- Gay/Faried
C- Davis/Cuz/Drummond

I feel like that starting 5 makes the most sense. Although against Spain, Gay out of the lineup for AD to 4, Cuz to 5.

I just don't see them adding Gay to camp if they weren't keeping him. They need another Durant like player as everybody knows. Gay is a poor mans version but still has USA experience.

I feel like Lillard will make the team but I keep getting this hunch that USA could keep Faried as the sole energy/rebounding specialist. And Korver as the obvious 3 pt specialist, though the Splash Bros are a potent combo from deep.

I put Drummond because I want to see him on the team but hep will most likely get cut?

If Cousins gets cut I'll be furious. Even though he is an uncontrollable idiot, he is a monster out there. We need at least one guy like Cuz.

Losing PG and Durant changes everything. Team USA is still the most talented by far but vulnerable.

Quite honestly, I think this is Steph and Derricks team now. None of these guys are true vocal leaders. But they'll play together and play hard. I still expect to win it all.

Can't wait. Go USA

Edit: I'm really leaning towards Lillard in and Korver out...
