I always thought it was pretty cool that MJ got Shaq more than a few times with a shot block. Not too many guards/wing players that I can recall ever blocked Shaq too often.

He liked to show players that he owned the league. He would work extra hard and compete against star/great players.

He's ruthless and vindictive, though.

If you did anything to him he'd make a point to go after you till he's satisfied.
He was blocked once by some teammate on the bulls in practice. Every play after that he'd make it a point to pass his own man, then go over to shoot over the same guy in every possession. :lol

Look at what he did when Rodman blocked him once.

So you pretty much didn't start watching till the LeBron era and you have no appreciation for all time greats. Got it.

Lebron came from literally 1-2 feet away there to make the block attempt. What's the big deal?

Compare that to Jordan coming from like 7-9 feet away to pack Otis Thorpe at the rim on a dunk attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz9r3JKMRnY#t=5m48s

Another rarely seen sick block by Jordan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO6KqxakuUg#t=3m24s

That's your reaction to the block? Sad..

I can tell you those MJ blocks are sick.. But why do you feel the need to downplay everything LeBron does just because it may be better block than MJ ever pulled off?

It's obvious that was one vicious block, the sickest I've ever seen tbh.. You're like "What's the big deal" Please

It's okay, Jordan is still the GOAT and LeBron will 99% never catch him.

No, it's a great block, but I don't see what makes it so amazing. It took very little timing, anticipation, or athleticism to pull off. It's a 6'8"+ guy basically standing in front of the rim and contesting a shot. It took guts to attempt to block the dunk, but it's not like Splitter is Shaq lol.

It actually did take timing, and as I consider strength to be a part of athleticism, it took a lot of that as well..

It took timing, but it didn't take nearly as much timing as it would have if he was coming from a further distance or at a not straight-on angle. That was my point.

Strength we'll agree to disagree. I just posted a video of MJ blocking an Otis Thorpe dunk attempt - and Thorpe was WORLDS stronger a player and dunker than Splitter, and had MONSTROUS hands. So if Bron's block required such great strength, then MJ's required superhuman strength (which I don't think is the case - just a good amount of strength, same as Bron's block).

Somebody please prove me wrong (Im serious).

But I am almost absolutely 100% certain that no other player has had as many game winning/sealing defensive plays as MJ.

Either a block or a steal, he's done it countless amount of times, more than anybody I know of.

I apologize if I sound like a super stan, Im trying not too. But I can't think of another player that's been as heroic as MJ.

Can some of Bill Russell, Hakeem, and KG fans please chime in? Im sure they're the only players that may have as long a resume.

The thing about MJ that probably gives him the edge is, he simply doesn't do it with steals, he also does it with blocks and even defensive disruption (harassing) that leads to a bad possession. He appears to cover an entire section of a floor by himself at times (go ahead and watch some tapes). He'll start out by playing ball denial defense, then switch on a man, force that man to pass, and then he'd run from the top to steal or block a shot in the paint (or near it).

Dat defensive clutch versatility.

I won't count out Hakeem, KG, and Russell completely. But I doubt they've won as many games with shit like that.

There's this one straight up too, but as a 2 guard you're really not going to get a ton of chances to block someone straight up as defensively you shouldn't be camping in the lane anyway

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNVqxZTjzeM&list=UUpQTh44hjgmezqp3bRbIixQ#t=23

Great dunk by Scottie afterwards too, lol. Stupid refs.

I don't know if I've ever seen a younger Shaq get blocked straight up. I think Derrick Coleman did it to him once and that was it. I don't recall Shaq getting his shot blocked very often at all actually until he was really older/heavier.

Yeah, I had him in mind but didn't think he had enough.

What p*sses me off about Wade was he took plays off on defense, when it should be the other way around.

But when he wanted to play defense, he was a tazmanian Devil similar to MJ.

Sure, Player wise.. Bust strength needed for the block? LeBron's face to face one, easy.
