spinoff of an earlier thread, without knowing who they would become (titles, mvps, allstars won and made etc), who would you draft first and why?

off the sheer excitement and hoopla he generated in highschool (coaches, media, and gm's saying he was "nba ready" in his teens), i would have go with LeBron.

I think most would pick LeBron without the benefit of hindsight. However, hindsight tells us that would be the wrong pick.

That air ball at the end was a foreshadowing of his future vanishing acts.

Dude cursed himself in his first game.

Revised arguments for Jordan over Lebron:

1) Better hops off a vertical so he scored better in traffic (http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=40451964#p40451964)

2) Not just quick for his size, but true guard quickness for > mismatches vs. bigger defenders (http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=40452998#p40452998)

3) Goat scoring ability allowed MJ to take on the largest load and attract maximum defensive attention to free up teammates, while Lebron undertook too small a load in the 2014 Finals (http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=40453039#p40453039), causing him to not attract enough defensive attention to facilitate his passing game and free up teammates - Lebron had as many turnovers as assists so his passing added no value to his team in the 2014 Finals.

4) Not only could Jordan take on the aforementioned maximum offensive load to attract maximum defensive attention and free up teammates, but his superior scoring versatility (including off-ball skill) (http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=40476428#p40476428) allowed him to take on that maximum load while scoring in whatever capacity allowed star teammates to play to their strengths (i.e. with Jordan off-ball, Pippen was free to be the more ball-dominant point-forward).

Factors 1-4 above enabled Jordan to control his own destiny better - translation: 6 for 6:

Jordan (not Joodan)

1st of all, LeBron didn't even go to college... And with that said, go watch Jordan play before he was in the pros, an athletic freak obviously but already with really good footwork, good fundamentals, solid jumper, and a more polished game than LeBron.

Ofc if I'd never saw them play, let's say if someone told me about them, I probably would've went with LeBron.

One of the most stupidest things ever said on this board.

You do know Jordan was an All American. He won Player of the Year. Aaaaaand hit the GW shot in the national championship game. It took LeBron 6 years to hit a clutch shot in the NBA and MJ won a title in college hitting a clutch shot.

It depends for many people and the scenario. Are we talking about 18 year old Jordan, or out of college Jordan?

The out of college Jordan was obviously better than 18 year old Lebron. But based on the Lebron hype, I think if we didn't know how their career would pan out, you go with Lebron.

Either way, you're getting top 7 all time talent.

You'd pick Lebron, as he's coming in as a teenager and averaging 21/6/6/2 from the jump. He's also much easier to build around.

This is true, with Jordan you need a lot of specialists

Kerr, Pippen, Rodman, Paxon

shooters, all stars, defenders, rebounders, point guards etc

LeBron you just need to put the spare parts around and you're a contender

those guys were getting filmed and had mini docs made about them in high school, in an era when NBA coverage was rare let alone coverage of any high schoolers, Wilt was making guest appearances on tv at the age of 14 for his abilities and freak basketball tools/size. Wilt was destroying pro's at Kutchers games and as a teenager actually played in a (not the NBA) pro league for a team in New York I believe under a fake alias and some stat sheets were recently discovered that showed him lighting them up with 46 points in typical Wilt fashion. Wilt and Lew were extremely hyped and well known since grade school.

Highschool Lebron was most certainly NOT better than, say, Junior year UNC Jordan. During the Summer of his Junior year in the Olympic trials, Jordan was dominating NBA all-stars and prompting no less a mind than Bobby Knight to declare that barring injury he would go down as the greatest player to ever play. Even rookie Lebron (much less high school Bron) was not able to dominate NBA talent the way third year UNC Jordan did, nor was anyone saying that sort of stuff about him.

If Lebron had won, he would have carried the 5th smallest offensive load (proportion of his team's shot attempts) of any guy that won the Finals while leading his team in shot attempts in the last 25 years - so he would NOT have carried a big load, which is contrary to the current consensus.

Given that in the 2014 playoffs, the more a team scored per game against the Spurs, the smaller their disadvantage to the Spurs in Ortg - a larger load carried by Lebron, which was feasible by historical standards, was needed..

A larger load seems even more necessary when the Heat accomplished any shooting efficiency goal they had - they easily shot the best of any Spurs opponent - but still had the worst offense and the worst performance.
