Welcome back griff.
Just two things:
1) #1 option isn't dictated by FGA. In the triangle, you want to get the ball to the center first.
2) That being said, Shaq doesn't win three rings without Kobe. When they both were in their primes in 01, that team was IMO the best ever in the playoffs. Both killed it, absolutely killed it.

This is very interesting.
Shaq is overrated, yes, but he's still a hell of a player

Not necessarily. Look at the Lakers with Gasol. Phil changed the offense, and ran it from the outside-in as opposed to inside-out, and Kobe was clearly the first option (he also posted up a ton). Melo isn't a nominal center, but he will play the post in the triangle more than those two.

1) Field goal attempts are not an indicator of how many touches a player gets. The better thing to look at would be the ratio between amount of touches with amount of shots taken. Other guys probably shot more with less touches. Shaq pretty much demanded the ball on almost every possession. When he did receive the rock, he knew what to do with it.
2) Because Shaq is a big body, look at the comparison of minutes played with other stars on his team. He needed as much rest as he could get. Playing less minutes will usually yield less touches and attempts.
3) Not really wise to look at his seasons AFTER his first Miami season. At that point of his career most of his skills were diminished and there were other players that needed to take over. His first Miami season was probably his last good year as a star.

lol i dunno man i watched the games. the triangle offense wasnt even used when kobe was scoring most of his points. he broke the offense to get his. and if shaq was always passing out of the post then he would have more than 3 assists.
kobe isnt a spot up shooter either. he creates off the dribble. they basically took turns being the 1st option all game.

He did break out of it obviously. The triangle isn't there for the stars, but to keep the role players engaged.
Kobe wasn't spotting up obviously. He played the wing so he was shooting, cutting, driving, posting up, etc. But I don't think it's fair to say he got most of his points outside of the system. A good amount (especially in the playoffs), but they were in the triangle more often than not.

I've always seen Kobe's role on the Pjax lakers as bail out option when the triangle doesn't work out.
Especially in the two peat era

You don't like Shaq otherwise you wouldn't have to justify it in the OP :oldlol:

Another good point. It really helped that Kobe knew each role in the system well, and was adept playing all of them in addition.

His bball IQ is really above anybody besides one or two people, that at least I have ever witnessed.

He was still the focal point of the Lakers offense and their most important player during their title years.
Kobe of course was very valuable as well.

Kobe wouldn't have sniffed the top 30 all time without Shaq
Shaq >> Kobe
Bran >> Kobe

Wouldn't disagree with that. I started watching Shaq's rookie year so I missed Magic/Bird, but I don't think there are many players ahead of Kobe in that regard.
Really hoping his teams can do something these next two years.

You do know when you get fouled it doesn't count as a FGA right? He routinely got fouled.
