so kate upton, former yankees fan, was at yankee stadium sitting behind the detroit bench to support her BF, justin verlander. they shared this fun little moment at one point...

she now claims (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/kate-upton-says-yankees-wouldn-t-let-her-wear-tigers--gear-at-yankee-stadium-163351353.html) she was told by yankee employees that she was prohibited from wearing a tigers hat and jersey. and it seems like this is not a unique situation, but fairly common in baseball... the home team doesn't want you wearing the enemies colors in high-profile seating.

i'm just wow... i had no idea baseball clubs were so insecure about fans wearing the opponents apparel. i mean, i get that sometimes you can be taking your health and safety in to your own hands, but this is completely different. this is about visibility and cameras and rah rah rah...

just seems over the top to me. is there any other major sport that imposes these kinds of rules? i thought a big part of sports was celebrating the whole us against them thing...

How is that even legal?

America is supposed to be a bastion of freedom and self expression.

so bottom line, i'm guessing this is not a thing in

bball
hockey
american football
futbol
MMA (haha)
cricket
tennis
table tennis
volleyball
etc

for some reason MLB is the biggest sport in the world to pull this shit...?

Was she sitting in corporate or special seating? Some arenas and clubs have rules about attire in certain areas.

At the MCG you have to wear a collared shirt and closed shoes in the members, to get into some areas you need to be in a suit.

she was sitting in "legend" seating behind the enemy dugout. i'm not sure what that means, but that's what the article said.

but this wasn't a dress code thing... this was a 'you can't wear the opponents gear because it would make the telecast look bad' thing.

i just don't get why a major sport would be so insecure about this stuff. if anything, i figure it would inspire the home viewers to root all that harder? :confusedshrug:

i just really really don't get this stuff

Lol this episode came to mind for me as well.

I had no idea this was legitimate. You'd think that the home team would be glad that their seats are filled.

Did she even pay for the ticket? From what I understand she got them for free from the Yankees.

If she didn't pay out of pocket, then stfu bitch.

I had a friend growing up who had season tickets four rows behind the Yankee dugout and I never heard anything like this.

However, a couple years ago, I was seeing a girl who's boss had season tickets front row behind home plate. We weren't together long, and I only got to go to one game. But she did express concern over not wearing other teams gear. I just sort of assumed it was instructions from her boss so as not to look like an ingrate on tv. I'm a Yankee fan so it didn't matter much to me, but she had two other friends coming too and one was a non sports type woman. I think she just feared she'd wear the wrong color or something.

It never occurred to me that those instructions may come with the ticket. They were a high profile seat. We were on tv pretty much for every pitch.

They also came with access to the resturant. Everything was free. All you can eat, pretty much anything you wanted. And all really world class stuff. We had to pay for liquor, but since the food was free, I wound up splurging on wine.

she should talk to the MLB commissioner about it.

I'm guessing she called up the Yankee PR team and asked for free tickets and they gave them to her. Then they felt burned.

The legend seats are right around home plate and include unlimited free buffet and snacks. It's pretty decadent. They are often sold to companies who then give them out to different employees.

There seems to be two tiers to that Legend Seating program from the time I went.
