How amazing was this game? The Lakers needed to win every game to make the Playoffs and Kobe was forced to play every minute of the game to keep his team alive in the Playoff picture, this is the game before the achilles injury happened. He had 4 blocks

[QUOTE]
The words would be endless. But these are noteworthy: It was the most points an opponent has scored in Rose Garden history, bettering the 44 LeBron James scored in 2011; it was the second-most by any player, falling five-points short of the 52 Brandon Roy scored against the Phoenix Suns in 2008; and it was the most points scored by an opposing player in Portland since Larry Bird scored 47 in 1986. Lakers were getting blown out early with Lillard making everything, Kobe matched him and outlasted him. This game is highly underrated when discussing Kobe's greatest regular season games. To be doing that at 34 years old, coming off a very badly sprained ankle and playing 45+ mpg in the last month of the season? At point guard nonetheless?

Kobe's numbers for April 2013

30.5 ppg 7 rpg 7.5 apg 2.2 spg 1.2 bpg on 44% shooting, playing 45 minutes a game...

He sure have lots of those. Not much to brag about come the real season tho.:confusedshrug:

Lillard was great to start the game, but ended up shooting under 50% after being on fire in the 1st quarter while Kobe kept it up.

2000 Playoffs, Game-winner against the Suns, b2b 30+ point games against the Kings
2000 Playoffs Game 7 WCF, leading the Lakers in points, assists, rebounds and blocks

2000 Finals Game 4 OT, No Shaq, no problem

2001 Playoffs, same WS/48 as prime Shaq, led the Playoffs in Winshares, b2b 45+ point 10+ reb games
2002 WCF with clutch FTs to close out the Queens, Finals, torching the Nets and closing out games for the sweep, his 3pt shot was wild in that series

2006 Playoffs, Game-tying shot + Gamewinner, torching the Suns for 50 pts in Game 6 with clutch bucket after clutch bucket, team loses him the series because they can't cover the 3pt line when they are up 3 with 10 seconds to go, leaving Nash wide open at the corner, misses, Kwame Brown's stupid ass doesn't know how much time there's on the clock and gets faked out, Tim Thomas gets it to OT

averaged 30/6/6 from 2008-10 Playoffs, only player in NBA history to score 600+ points in 3 straight postseasons, 2 out of 3 Finals won without Shaq.

But let's keep on acting like Kobe did nothing in the Playoffs.

I was talking about games like Jordan's 63, flu-game, Bron against arch rivals Pistons gm5 and Celtics gm6, and other great games of these magnitude. Not just games where a dude put up big numbers.

What is so great about MJ's 63, when his team got swept in that series

so 2000 WCF Game 7 is not an all-time great game? Kobe putting the Lakers on his back to lead the team out of a 13-point hole in the 4th quarter, the most memorable alley-oop in NBA history?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLyHKhpYLmU

How old are you, really?

Kobe's game-tying shot + game-winner against the Suns in 06 is one of the most famous moments in the 2000s..

How many memorable moments does Tim Duncan or Wilt Chamberlain have in the Playoffs, that everybody talks about all the time? There's more to greatness than a few standout games, which Kobe has more than most players ever will. Winning 5 rings and having key games/plays in every one of them, being the best guard of his era. What else does he need?

plus, Kobe has at least 2 more years, so his career isn't played out yet.

Didn't Kobe get like 20 FT's that game? If that was LeBron, there would've been 487289 threads about the refs. Great game by Kobe though.

EDIT: 18 FT's. Dwight and Pau were pretty good as well. Pau with 23/7/9/2 on 73% TS and Dwight with 20/10/1/3 on 82% TS.

Meh. A dozen better performances by pretty much any top 15 player.

Really? Give me examples, this game had a higher magnitude than anyone else's. This is about the team making the Playoffs with every game being a must win, Kobe showed up and scored the most points against Portland since Larry Bird and had 4 blocks as well, he played great on both ends, look at how Lillard disappeared in the 2nd half.

And I agree that there were better games, but those games were also by Kobe
with Lakers being in a win-or-die situation

3 straight clutch 3s against the Raptors ( 41 pts, 10 assists )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQd2h4X0O2E

Huge comeback on the road against the Hornets ( 40 pts, 12 assists )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0yJVX74rC0

The Achilles game can be argued to be just as great, with Kobe getting injured TWICE and still keeping it going, 34 pts, losing his achilles and still walking on the court and taking free throws, trying to continue playing...this is insane

Really, there is no need for this. Most real hoop fans are familiar with Kobe's body of work in reg season and playoffs.

Those that are not are Lebron fanboys that celebrate ESPN's overhyped moments (e.g., Lebron's shot to beat Orlando despite his team ultimately getting smashed).

Him and Lillard going at each other was pretty fun to watch.

Unfortunately, probably the last time he'll ever score that much in a game again. He was so close to another 50+ point game too. The last time he score 50+ or more was the 61 point game at the Garden.

Yeah, he's had a few opportunities but has come up short in that regard. Missing some easy shots that could have easily given him 50+.

I wouldn't say that his 50+ scoring days are over, when an old ass MJ dropped 51 on them youngins, Kobe's body is in better shape than that (barring future injuries).

He had games with 40+ points and 10+ assists during the 2012-13 season, if he took a few more shots instead of passingg, I think he would have broken it. One game he should have scored 50+ with over 40 FGA, but he got only 1 FT in that game (and was hacked badly all game without any calls).

- 48/16 against the Kings in the 01 playoffs, followed up 45/10 performance at San Antonio. How many players in NBA history have dropped 45+/10+ in back to back playoff games?

- Young Kobe leads the Lakers to an OT win over the Pacers in game 4 of the Finals after Shaq fouled out.

- Drops 25/11/7 and has a huge 4th quarter against the Blazers in game 7 of the WCF.

- Averaged 29/7/6 on 47% shooting in the 01 playoffs

- 50/8/5 against the Suns in 06

- 49/10 against the Nuggets in 08 (averaged 34/6/5 for the series)

- 39/3/3 against the defending champ Spurs in 08. Led the Lakers back from 20 down.

-Averaged 34/6/6 in the WCF (2 40+ point games in this series)

- 40/8/8 in game 1 of the 09 Finals (averaged 32/7/6 for the series)

- 40/5/5 against the Suns in 2010 WCF (averaged 34/8/7 for the series)

- Averaged 30/6/6 on 46% shooting between 08 and 10, and led his team to 3 Finals appearances and 2 rings in that time span. In other words, one of the most dominant individual runs in NBA history.

- 5 rings, 2 FMVPs

Lebron has had a great career, this thread is about Kobe and what he did in 2013. Why does EVERY Kobe thread turn into Kobe vs Lebron? I'm not here to argue about Kobe being better than someone or having more great games than everyone, I just wanted to point out how great and underrated Kobe was in 2013 and what he did to keep his team alive for the Playoffs after promising that we'd make it when we were losing and everyone wrote us off.

The 2012-13 Lakers season was one of the most exciting ones for me personally, because Kobe looked like his old self and the rest of the team was constantly injured, Kobe was dunking on everyone like he was 25.

:facepalm Who the hell even remembers these other than Kobe stans or guys who spend their life remembering NBA games.

I was talking about games like Jordan's 63, flu-game, Bron against arch rivals Pistons gm5 and Celtics gm6, and other great games of these magnitude. Not just games where a dude put up big numbers.
lebron james needed 2 other guys to win it all lmfao

are u mental? a couple games arent gonna boost u all-time

kobe bryant's work is season-long, and he has had impressive games against the spurs and suns, that too in the playoffs. And that game ur mentioning with lbj, he didnt even go on to win a championship that year. Kobe's game winner against the Suns could be counted too but obviously the lakers lost that series. You see what I did there?

Lebron has had a great career, this thread is about Kobe and what he did in 2013. Why does EVERY Kobe thread turn into Kobe vs Lebron? I'm not here to argue about Kobe being better than someone or having more great games than everyone, I just wanted to point out how great and underrated Kobe was in 2013 and what he did to keep his team alive for the Playoffs after promising that we'd make it when we were losing and everyone wrote us off.

Yes, I remember Lebron fans screaming PED! after the back to back 40/10 games.

There was absolute panic.
