Melo - 21 ppg/6.1 rpg/2.8 apg/1.2 spg on 42.6% shooting
- Team Record: 43-39
- Made the playoffs; Lost in the 1st round

LeBron - 20.9 ppg/5.5 rpg/5.9 apg/1.6 spg on 41.7% shooting
- Team Record: 35-47
- Missed the playoffs

1) Stats: Scoring was even. Carmelo averaged more rebounds but LeBron averaged more assists & steals. Carmelo also shot better, but only by .9%... so not really much of a difference. Overall, LeBron had better all-around stats and in addition, he became the 3rd player in the NBA history to average 20/5/5 as a rookie (At the time)

2) Team success: Denver obviously won more games, but how many wins did they improve by? 26. On the other hand, Cleveland improved their record by 18 wins, so Denver improved more.

In the end, I do feel Melo should've won the ROY award mainly because he led his to the playoffs as a rookie and LeBron didn't.

Only reason why LeBron won it was because of the 20-5-5 feat. I think he was one of 2 or 3 rookies to ever do it.

Not saying that Melo would put up 5 APG if asked to a PG but that wasn't his role. Should go against him.

So basically, LeBron won based on historical content rather than his competition(Melo) that year.

And before any Bran stans says Melo mde the playoffs because he had a better team. Well, the West was also 10x tougher than the East.

Robbed is a strong word in this situation. I do think he definitely deserved it. There should have been co-Rookie of the Year.

considering this would be melos biggest achievement, i also feel that they should have given it to him.

Numbers are useless without context and logic tho. That Nuggets team that won 17 games was entirely different than the 43 win team. 17 win team had 9 different players starting 20 or more games. Junior Harrington started 51 games as a rookie and washed out of the NBA entirely like 2 years later. Yarbrough played one season in the NBA, started 39 games and averaged 20+ minutes on that 17 win team. Skita almost averaged 20 minutes a night and started close to 20 games.

That 17 win team was literally garbage outside of a 20 year old Nene, Howard & Posey for 25 games & Camby who only started a handful of games. Andre Miller, Voshon Lenard, Camby, Boykins were all pretty critical to adding wins to that team.

Melo was obviously the main reason no doubt. He deserved ROY as well IMO but the fact that the Nuggets had that massive of a turnaround can't just be put on him.

Turned around around a crappy losing team and put them into the playoffs, had better/winning record in the tough west while Lebron struggled in the Least and missed the postseason, equal stats but Melo had a better fg% and 3p%.

Considering how much Lebron has accomplished and what little Melo has other than being the best player on the Olympic teams and stats, I think the right thing to do is for Bran to hand over that 2004 ROY trophy. Everyone knows he didn't deserve it. :facepalm

Lebron was the better player and Melo trying to take all the credit for Denver's turn around was the first sign of what a douche he was. Andre Miller and Camby were a huge part of it

But 19 year old Melo was "the man" on that team. They would have easily made it to the ECF in the east.

rookies year lebron was a better all around but melo shows he can compete head to head.

lebron had boozer and big z, which was also solid af back then.

I definitely favored Melo winning the award back then even though I was a huge LeBron fan during his 1st Cleveland stint

This was quite controversial on the board back in the EZboard days. Pretty much everyone agreed Melo got robbed considering the turn around Denver had. Although less people would have stuck up for him if they had known what a douche he'd become.

was already a douche. Said shit about Kirilenko making the all-star team and tried to take credit for everything that happened in Denver.

A lot of people felt that Lebron deserved it and that he just needed more help to make the playoffs in the East.

I remember my cousin telling me that Lebron needs more help, and thus should get it as a consolation.

LeGOAT been needing moar help since day 1 to year 17. Even though he currently has 4 allstars and has had multiple allstars on other teams in the past he ALWAYS needs more help

Yes, it does seem that it's always been that way. The way it's always going to be. Might be because of his style of play. Accumulation of stats. Lebron ball.

Nope

Just give him all nba all defensive Pippen and have them play against 10.7 ppg #2 options and he'll be JUST fine :lol

It's sad. They pampered him since he was 10th grade to be the next mj so they gave that undercheiving bitch the award :coleman:
