View Full Version : Call me crazy, but I think the 2010 Lakers were an overrated champ

They were essentially a 5-man team with no bench that got all the benefit of the doubt because they were the Lakers, they were defending champs, they had Kobe, they had Phil, they were the biggest team in all of sports.

This was a flawed team that I think was basically Kobe and a bunch of big guys. They had one megastar, size, but not much else.

They used those strengths and home-court advantage (Outside the Utah series, they won only 3 road games combined in the other series) to just squeak by OKC at the end, beat deeper Phoenix/Boston teams.

I thought they were a little bit flawed, but because they were the Lakers of Kobe and defending champs, the concerns were shrugged off.

And let's not forget they caught a few breaks when they didn't have to face Denver (who gave them fits the year before), Dallas (who beat them the following year), and maybe old nemesis San Antonio

Nobody rates that team highly, how can they be overrated?

They weren't a very talented or deep team.

But Kobe rallied team together and got the earn out of them.

Had a goat esque performance in the conference finals.

The series would have been over in 6 against Boston if anybody besides Kobe showed up in game 5

They needed 7 games and Gasol and Artest to bail them out just to beat them

This is the same Celtics team that the Heat dismantled in just 5 games 10 months later :facepalm

Yeah Kobe's 29/6/6 in the 2010 postseason had nothing to do with it

Bus seriously I think OP is selling this team short. How many other teams could win a game 7 of the Finals with their "best player" shooting 6/24? :confusedshrug:
Any team that can overcome a choke that big is stacked to the ceiling!

Your OP makes more sense if I replace the word "overrated" in the title with underrated. How can they be overrated if you yourself say the bold?

Who the hell overrates them? It was a seven game series that had a close game 7 with both teams playing like ass.

More rings than LeBron.

The 2010 Lakers are not overrated... they're more underrated than anything as they were a team that NOBODY could match up well against due to their size.
