Yeah they do. Shouldnt have gone there. Should have left the aid to the people who could protect themselves. I respect them fully for their kind hearts and thirst for universal freedom. Whatever happens the people they helped will never forget their sacrifice.

When the majority of the opposition consists of militants from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia,Turkey, etc (including ISIS, which is helping put Iraq even further in the toilet), you're not helping anybody worth saving allying with them.

The majority of my relatives are currently in Lebanon and Syria. They are all Christian (doesn't mean much here, but over there, it's your identity) and support Assad. It's a well known fact groups like ISIS took over the opposition and morphed it from protesting the government to attempting religious genocide.

I don't want to start a flame war in this thread...We've had this conversation at least a dozen times to the point where I know where most posters who have participated in these discussions lie on the matter. I was trying to say that we know outsiders in Syria are dying. The death toll is out of friggen control over there, and both sides share some of the blame. So why subject yourself to that kind of danger if you don't need to? That's like me or you going to Mexico and going to help people in cartel infested neighborhoods. It's suicide, plain and simple. Especially when you don't know who you're even helping. I'm as positive as can be that the opposition is to blame for them going missing.

Sorry for going on a tangent. My point is simply that there aren't many (if any) "religious militants" fighting for the government. And if there are, religion isn't the motive for their actions. Especially when Assad is a minority Muslim himself, and is a target for that very reason.

These girls were trying to help save people. They sacrificed themselves against their better judgement to try and do their part in saving the lives of children and people in a troubled area. They will most likely get raped and murdered for their sacrifice.

If you are referring to the title of this thread, I only wanted to make it clear that they are white because it changes the situation greatly. A white hostage in militant hands is in a much worse situation than a black hostage. Whether its right or wrong is not for me to say, but that's just the way it is. There is a difference in their worth.

Euro governments (they arent like the US government, we never pay ransoms. most of the time we ignore ransom requests, sometimes we manage to rescue them) are notorious for paying ransoms. The girls will probably be raped and than ransomed back to the italian government for millions of euros.

The exchange for bowe bergdahl was the closest we have ever come to paying a ransom. But that was a prisoner exchange. As a matter of policy the US government is willing to let our citizens die rather than pay a ransom (obviously we would rather locate them and send in special forces). In the long run I feel that is the correct choice as you incentivize kidnappings if you pay ransoms.
