Mandela was sick for years, his death came as no surprise and the world had grieved at his beside forever it seemed, waiting for the end... when he passed there was more a collective sigh of relief that his suffering was over... The world had been mourning his loss long before he was actually gone


Robin Williams death was a shocking surprise sprung on the world in the worst way so of course the initial reaction of Williams death for a few days would seem to be larger than that of Mandela but in fact it's not a bigger reaction just more of a flood of reaction vs the steady stream of offerings we got for months on months with Mandela

Mandela's as a man in his 90s was freaking huge. His health problems the months before, when they thought he was going to die in a few days was on par with Robin Williams death.

Also, big stars like Robin Williams get a lot of coverage (not Mandela type coverage) when they die at a relatively young age. Yet an equivilant famous star who dies at age 87, but hadn't done much in the last 25 years or so, they get a lot less coverage than what Robin Williams got.

So Mandela was big, big funeral, big everything, especially when you consider his very old age.

There's just no comparison with the two.

First of all its 'Mandela'. and secondly he has been celebrated since he got out of jail, wheeled out to wave every time it gets tense in South Africa, his death was a month long festival of memorials and rememberances, CNN only covered him for ten days.
