It's like choosing the "ugliest" chick out of a group of supermodels, but I'd say Kobe & Duncan had the weakest peaks out of players in the top 10. What other top 10 player had a worse peak than Duncan?

You realize you just called LeBron a top 10 player of all time, right? Knowing you, I doubt that was what you intended, I'm sure you just came in here intending to insult LeBron, but being the buffoon you are, you ended up inadvertently praising him.

Lebron. Formed a collusion to easily win the title, choked like a fa99ot. Won title in a lock - out season against young Thunder team with low IQ basketball. Ray Allen saved his choking ass in 2013. Pressured to win 3 peat... failed... Checked out in game 1 due to cramps, Chris Bosh carried them in game 2, doesn't have the will to take over after getting blown out by the Spurs, sits himself with 8 minutes remaining in game 5. Forming a collusion part 2 with Love and Irving, wants it easy... again.

2*/5, 1*/5 if not saved by Allen.

If your going to try to bring up stats i'm going to copy paste :facepalm

Larry Bird is an all time great no doubt about it, but how can anyone really choose Larry Bird here?

Larry Bird played 13 NBA seasons, while Lebron is currently on his 11th.

Durability
- Lebron has ONLY missed 39 games in his NBA career, for an average of 3.5 missed games per year
- Bird missed 169 games in his NBA career, an average of 13 missed games per year
- Lebron is a tank who barely misses games, Bird became more injury prone as his career went on

Scoring
- Lebron has a career average of 27.5 points, career TS% of 57.9%, eFG% of 52.8%
- Bird has career averages of 24.3 points, career TS% of 56.4%, eFG% of 51.4%
- Lebron scored more, and he scored more efficiently.

Rebounding
- Lebron has a career average of 7.2 rebounds, with a rebounding % of 10.8
- Bird has career averages of 10 rebounds per game, with a rebounding % of 14.5
- Bird is the better rebounder, grabs more rebounds and grabs a higher % of his teams rebounds as well

Playmaking
- Lebron has career averages of 6.9 assists, 3.3 turnovers, an assist % of 34.3, and a turnover% of 12.2
- Bird has career averaged of 6.3 assists, 3.1 turnovers, an assist % of 24.7, and a turnover% of 12.7
- Lebron wins here

Defense
- Lebron is a five time and counting member of the All NBA Defensive 1st team, and DPOY runner up
- Bird was never named to the first team, was never a DPOY or a DPOY runner up, was better at racking up steals
- Hard one to compare really, but this is Lebron convincingly in my eyes.

Misc
- Lebron has a career PER of 27.7 Vs Bird who has a career PER of 23.5
- Lebrons has a PER of 27.3 in the playoffs Vs Bird who has a PER of 21.4 in the playoffs
- Lebron has made 1000+ 3's on 34% shooting Vs Bird who made 649 on 38% shooting
- Lebron has surpassed Bird in scoring, and assist even though he played 2 less seasons
- Lebron and Bird both have 2 Finals MVP's
- Larry Bird has 3 championships, while Lebron has 2
- Lebron has 4 MVP trophies, while Bird has 3
- Lebron currently has 161.2 win shares total in his career Vs Bird who has 145.8 through 13 NBA seasons

I know I probably left somethings out, but I fail to see how anyone can rank Bird higher than Lebron James. Lebron is doing some legendary stuff out there. This is easily Lebron for me.

I'm not a git like you, boy.

Cmon man don't make it more obvious you never watched Bird. Lost all credibility that you might have been old enough to watch Bird when you said he's better than Lebron :facepalm

Obviously Bill Russell

He's in the top 10 because of his amazing defense, his team play, and most importantly all of his titles. However, he was never anywhere near as dominant an offensive player as the rest of the top 10.

He never averaged 20ppg, not once. And when he did score, he wasn't very efficient. His career high is 50% TS, which is frankly awful.

Oh, of course. The NBA has a long list of players who have put up 50-25, 45-24, 33-24-5, 24-24-8, and 24-24-9 seasons.
And we have seen many players lead the league in scoring and rebounding, at the same time. He could only do that five times. And how about leading the league in scoring, rebounding, and FG%, at the same time?. Wilt only did it three times. He also led the league in rebounding, FG%, and assists in another...but again, we see players doing that all the time now.

In fact, the man was a laughingstock.

Bill Russell's peak is 18.9/23.6/4.5 with maybe 7 blocks a game. Which is the year he won MVP over 50/25 Wilt.

When looking at the stats you should keep in mind that there were on average 67% more rebounds in a game back then compared to the NBA last season. So that 23.6rpg average is the equivalent of 14.0rpg today. Still fantastic, but not as insane as it looks.
Also, noone is averaging 7 blocks per game, just not happening.

So his peak is actually something like 18.9/14*/4.5 with 4-5 blocks per game. Those are amazing numbers, but the rest of the top 10 players have had better seasons than that.

67% of 23.6 is 15.8 rpg. And don't forget that rebounding totals were at an all-time high in the early 60's. In his 63-64 season, he averaged 24.7 rpg, in an NBA that averaged about 56 rpg (keep in mind that TEAM rebounds were added to team totals..., which has not been the case since after the 67-68 season.) Last year the NBA averaged nearly 43 rpg per team. So Russell's 24.7 rpg in '64 would translate to about to about 18.9 rpg in '14. Granted, Russell is not going to play 44.6 mpg in '14, but even at 40 mpg, he would have still averaged 17 rpg.

No, he would not average 17rpg.

He would average 14-15rpg, similar to peak KG/Dwight.

And while there is no doubt he was a fantastic rebounder, and probably the best defender ever, he is not even top 100 on offense. 19ppg on poor shooting numbers is obviously not that good when comparing to the rest of the top 10.

I'm not saying he's bad by any means, I would love to have someone like him on my team. But this is a comparison to the other top 10 alltime players, and in that comparison Bill Russell comes in last.

yes, I do, I just don't value his offense in a same way other poeple do.

Bill wasn't needed to score all the time, and he did when it was needed to.
His leadership and defense are legendary, second to none, so based on those I rank him #1 in peak play. That's just my opinion, I understand that people value different things and probably nobody will agree with me

As much as I respect him and is great as he was this has to be Bill Russell, no? It's hard to single out the "worst of the best" but in terms of peak individual dominance Russell would probably be my choice.

The question is why is scoring the most important stat to consider? Bill Russell is one of the best rebounders and shot blockers of all-time, along with being one of the best passing big men ever.

Well because Wilt was so dominant it is perceived as easy to score in that era and Russell sucked at it. :confusedshrug:

This is true but we're talking about peak only. I understand that Russell's impact is hard to quantify. I have him at #3 all time but I think his peak is a hair below the others.

1. Godbe Bryant
2. Kareem
3. Magic
4. O'neal
5. Bird
6. Wilt
7. Duncan
8. Russell
9. Hakeem Olajuwon
10. Moses Malone

I've squeezed in weak era players by default. So that title definitely goes to Bill Russell. Never touched 20ppg his entire career. 15ppg in arguably the weakest era of all time:lol . Horrible.

LeBron*

Choked twice in finals. Got bailed out by another Hall of Famer. Only legit ring came at the expense of a premature team.

right now, it's Bill Russell. But if lebron can somehow sneak into the top 10 with a miracle, he'll take that spot.
