:confusedshrug:

Is it just a matter of defending the PnR differently (which is admittedly a big deal, considering how often teams run them on offense)? Or are there other significant differences?

Thibs' system relies on a one really dedicated defensive-minded player QBing things...especially with defending the PnR.

In Boston, KG was the guy; you didn't hear it as much on TV, but if you were at the game...on defense, you'd hear his voice non-stop whether it was calling switches both on and off the ball, yelling out how much time was left on the shot clock or whatever. The guy's job was just to see everything and tell his teammates what to do. With the PnR, it was really great because KG's aptitude for it was a big part of what allowed Kendrick Perkins to flourish down on the block.

Seems like Noah fills that same role in Chicago.

Thanks for the response.

One thing I noticed from watching KG in Boston (especially before the injury) is that he laid would get up in the ball-handler's face on the PnR, and would use his mobility to recover to the screener if he went to the basket.

It looks like Thibs has Noah (or whoever is guarding the roll man) lay back more often now, and instead of trying to rush a bad shot or force a bad decision, it seems the goal is to push the action to the sideline. Noah is pretty athletic, so maybe Thibs changed his philosophy and fears guys going to the middle more now?

Yes that is basically it. The Goal is to force long two pointers. And make sure the strong side is loaded up upon. The Bulls rebounding also cuts back on transition and second chance opportnities, rebounding was a weakness of the Celtics when KGs legs werent 100%.
