aside from dennis rodman in 1996 and pau gasol in 2010, the obvious, who do you think was robbed of a finals mvp?

here are a couple:
- kevin garnett in 2008 (had a better DRTG and more win shares than pierce)
- manu in 2005 (duncan was great, but manu had a higher ORTG, shot a higher percentage and hit the biggest shots/quarters when the spurs desperately needed buckets)
- cornbred maxwell in 1982 (bird hit the big shots in that series, was the best playmaker and all-around player BY FAR)

what other names come to mind? :confusedshrug:

maxwell in 1981*

also, did jerry west really deserve finals mvp despite the lakers losing? maybe one of the old timers on here can elaborate.

Pau Gasol in 2009. I believe he shot 58 percent in that series, straight up dominating prime Dwight Howard.

Gasol in 2009 and 2010 no debate

Led in rebounds field goal percent and blocks

Led in win shares in 2010

good choice. he actually had a higher ORTG and DRTG than kobe in that series. crazy.

does anyone know his efficiency rating or winshares in that series?

also, my op should read larry bird in 1982. i feel he was robbed, not maxwell.

You setting yourself up here....

There are various articles out there claiming Rodman was the FMVP, Roundball posted them before... Also, for starters, GEORGE KARL HIMSELF, said Dennis Rodman was the MVP of that series..

http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/sports/jax-return-article-1.725242

"Michael Jordan was the MVP of this Final," Jackson said. "Everybody had their moments. But Michael was consistently the force and factor for us in this series."

Rodman rebounded very well (and he deserves a lot of credit for the win), but Kemp killed the Bulls front court in that series and even garnered MVP votes (more than Rodman). So we're going to give the MVP to the guy that just rebounded well but was a complete non factor in putting up points that actually win games. What is this revisionist history. :lol

lol@ win shares

1. gasol is 0-12 without kobe in playoff games

2. kobe made pau gasol off his double teams. 75% of paus points came off a initial kobe double team

3. kobe averaged 32 ppg, 7.4 apg, 5.6rpg, 1.4spg, 1.4bpg in the 2009 finals

kobe averaged 29 ppg, 8rpg, 4apg, 2spg, 1bpg, in the 2010 finals

4. kobe was the best defensive player on the lakers ( still in his prime and getting legit 1st team all defensive awards )

5. kobe was the main play maker.

6. kobe was the main scorer

7. kobe was taking all the pressure

8. kobe was the main focal point of the defense

sorry guys. you have a better chance picking on kobes non finals mvp rings in which he ONLY averaged 25ppg, 5rpg, 5apg over 3 playoffs and 29/7/6 in 2001

Gasol outperformed Kobe in both the 09 and 10 finals. Those are just the facts. Just because the facts contradict the agenda driven media's narrative does not mean it is hating.

actually the facts state otherwise. performance is based on output. not efficiency

otherwise big men would win every single finals mvp due to them taking safer shots

why do people totally take away kobes entire career of defensive skills because of 1 or 2 iffy selections

if hes in his prime and mobile, winning titles and locking guys down. then i dont see why he shouldnt be given credit.. especially on a team like the lakers who didnt have anyone else nearly as accomplished defensively

artest won a defensive player of the year. but by 2010 he wasnt even making 2nd team awards and had slowed down a ton.

god knows kobe was 10000 times the defensive player pau was... sh*t even on one leg kobes still a better defender. paus the softest ****ing tissue that ever steppped foot on a basketball court not named shawn bradly

Wade in 2011, but LeBron was like the 5th best player in the series, and kept Miami from winning the championship which would've legitimized Wade's 2x Finals MVP.

Lebron in 2014 if wade shows up as well, wade was the 8th best player

Would have given lebron 3 FMVP's and he would've been a top 5 GOAT

Good counter, except for the fact that Wade was clearly declining and LeBron was at the top of his game.

many people do, but he was crucial in the sonics series. in the games jordan shot sub 30% in, rodman had tons of offensive rebounds.

19 boards and 11 offensive. you are talking about bill russell and wilt chamberlain impact. he truly deserved the mvp. :applause:

another case of someone that could've been awarded, is pippen in 1998.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1998-06-11/sports/9806110398_1_scottie-pippen-bulls-karl-malone

jerry sloan and malone both thought he was the best player in that series. unfortunately he hurt his back and the rest is history.

Duncan 20.6 pts / 14.1 rebs / 2.1 assts / 2.1 blks 41.9%FG
Manu 18.7 pts / 5.9 rebs / 4 assts / 1.3 stl 49.4%

As far as biggest shots/quarters, who do you think they're doubling so Manu has those wide open shots?

"His complete game is so sound, so fundamnetal, so unnoticed at times, because if he didn't score, people think, 'Well, he didn't do anything,'" Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "But he was incredible and he was the force that got it done for us."

"You follow your leader," Spurs guard Tony Parker said. "Timmy is the leader of the team, and he just carried us tonight."

"He put his team on his shoulders and carried them to a championship," Pistons center Ben Wallace said. "That's what the great players do."

"You could tell when he caught the ball, how much more physical he was, getting in position and bumping and grinding and getting shots and making sure he got toward the rim, so that when people came at him he was in good position to open up a teammate," Popovich said.

"A lot of the shots they made, open shots, came as a result of us having a hard time guarding him," Brown said. "That's why he's such a great player."

"Rasheed was strapped all game," Brown said. "If you don't have your big people with the ability to play aggressively on Duncan, you've got no shot."
