I don't have a favorite breed anymore. Just any dog that is loyal, listens, and is friendly with children is fine for me.

I agree German Shepherd. Very protective /loyal breed of dogs(owned one as a kid).

Gets depressing when they get older though and get hip displacia. ust a shell of their former selves. Great dogs though. My in-laws protected my daughter when she was a baby.

I have heard that their popularity led to poor breeding/hip issues ,but unfortunately ours was killed when she was several years old .

Friends could not get too close (not hand me anything), shake my hand ,horseplay,etc...because she would go crazy thinking they were bothering us(Siblings ). My mother gave up spanking us around that dog because she would go crazy .

Naturally very protective dog. Ripped a few pant legs & jackets,but fortunately she never bit anyone seriously.

I'll keep that hip issue in mind if I decide to get one or consider a Belgian Malinois .

Flat Coated Retriever / German Shepherd mix used to be my dog growing up. Died in 2005.

Strong, athletic, very intelligent, protective, and loved to swim.

Weimaraners.

Not sure I could ever own another breed, as much as I love all dogs. Weimars are just so unique. They take a ton of attention and care, though... not for people constantly on the go.
