media hype -> MVP
plays in big market
flash drives and cross overs, acrobatic finishes.

Good player, but never near MVP level.

- He is arguably the most athletic point guard to ever play the game

- He does things on the floor that you rarely see

- His speed is unreal

- He is fearless

- He is humble

- Although humble, he plays with style and swagg

- He is a winner

its basically his style of play... Doesnt matter how good you are if you have flashy moves your gonna be more popular which is why Kobe is a million times more popular then Tim Duncan

Flashy game, seems like a good dude despite being borderline retarded, plays in a big market (one of the more respectable big markets too, not NY or LA), his team is a contender when he's healthy, etc.

^This. Plays with swag plus add in the fact that he is laidback off the court, down to earth, likeable and as the ladies say, good looking = recipe for popularity.

His god-like athleticism makes him exciting to watch. That's why he's one of my favorite players. I became a fan of his since that 36 point game he had in the playoffs vs Boston during his rookie year.

His combination of speed, quickness, agility, athleticism, touch and finesse was other worldly before his injuries.

He is starting to return to form.

The way he can accelerate and blow by people is incredible, and the way he finishes around the hoop, his body control and touch is just amazing.

And he is humble and respectable

Come on man, this borderline retarded stuff has to stop. Thibs has often said that he marvels at Rose's ability to retain information quickly. Thibs has also said that he marvels at Rose's ability to recall facts and game sets from years ago. The guy used to be painfully shy. And sure he didn't excel while attending an inner city high school while he happened to live in the most dangerous area of Chicago. Well excuse him if he was too preoccupied with a little thing called "staying alive" every day. Trust me, what he did in HS is no reflection on his intelligence. Live where he lived before you judge. He is a man now. If you listen to him talk now he comes across as much more sure of himself and much more articulate. Back away from that retard shit. When you go there you just come across as a sheltered misinformed hater.

That play right there is special. I counted him going practically full-court in only 3 dribbles:eek:

There are not many people in the entire history of the game that can do that.

I think Rose is more socially akward then retarded. But then again, he could very well be dumb and just focused on basketball his whole life.

Derrick Rose is liked because he has a flashy game and his speed and body control are the best ever. Not even exaggerating.

Nothing not to like. Well except for him not returning after being cleared. But he got injured again, so i guess it's forgivable.

No problem. But you and I both know that there is a big difference between being from Chicago and being from the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. I have a lived in Chicago all my life but Engelwood is a different animal altogether -- a place to be avoided -- highest crime rate in the city. Rose is from Engelwood.

And jump off the wrong foot and deliver with the off hand, while slicing defenders!

On the part of posters calling him retarded and not to bright... you have to remember that Rose is about the same age as the average poster here. Rose seen much more in his life than the average poster here, and distance that he moved from Englewood to where he is at now is unimaginable for most of his haters. Hopefully, anybody with any intelligence will know that anybody who can wake up one day and say, "why can't I be the best in the world" and execute it at 22 years old, the youngest to ever do it, he is bright in the way he chose to be. There are millions of people who never pick up on the intelligence that truly works for them.

Rose improved every year, put in the work, had more responsibilities than other stars, was one of the few young leaders the league has had in years. Game recognizes game - whether you deal with talent, concepts, creativity, details, team work, whatever. Rose did his thing, his way. If he's dumb and can call up an MVP, than so called brighter people should be be among the best in their world at what they do.
