Let Larry and Shaq score. Let Duncan and Jordan defend. Let Magic create.

Would work pretty well.

you can only assemble a team like that in a video game, and you beat them by adjusting the game cheat settings. :lol

Actually, i think they would win and i wouldnt even be surprised at all if they even won more often than not, its a better defensive team and they can do the same or even more damage offensively.... which means they will be able to defend & score on them better than the other way around....

Well there are a few weaknesses with that team that you need to exploit in order to (have a chance to) win.

You need 2 fast guards so Magic's defense can be exploited (i suppose MJ would guard the opposing PG and Magic the SG). A stretch 4 to take Duncan out of his comfort zone. An athletic SF to matchup with Bird. A skilled post player to make Shaq work defensively.

My team
C: Buck's Kareem
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
SF: Kevin Durant
SG: #8 Kobe
PG: Isiah Thomas

durant and lebron are not great defensive players, they are good, but not that good...so...pippen is guarding jordan...right....and durant guarding bird???

I dont know how to translate or comprehend the ridicilousness in that meaning.... that you believe Lebron is not a great defensive player or that Durant is actually even anywhere close to being as good of a defensive player as Lebron is....

That team is without a doubt the team to beat. Not only are they good at what they do, they make a great team because they are all willing and skilled passers.

I gonna try to go with this team's versatility and creativity with the ball, and hope that a peak McGrady, with his length can work MJ on both ends.

You said LeBron should be DPOY every year until he retires right?

LeBron wasn't a good defender in the slightest last year.

In 2k, unbeatable.

In real life, sub-PO team with extreme chem. issues.

So do you mean which team would be better in 2k or real-life.

I would say the best team since 1980 to counter that is:

09 LeBron
08 Kobe
95 Pippen
04 Garnett
94 Hakeem

Your team obviously has more firepower offensively, but it only has 2 all time great defenders in Duncan and Jordan at their positions. Mine has great defenders at every position, and would have a real shot at beating yours in a one game scenario.

why lebron at PG...why...
It's because he has enough size and speed to guard magic and would would oblitate Magic's pitiful defense.

Cheating though since Lebron isnt a point guard.:facepalm

Kareem

All at their peaks..that team has a serious shot.

And people need to stop complaining about position changes..if they can play a different position and play it well, it's fair game.

I believe that the following "team" could give them a serious scare.

C- 1994 Hakeem
PF- 2008 KG
SF- 1996 Pippen
SG- 1994 Reggie Miller
PG- 2002 Jason Kidd (I struggled between '02 Kidd, '93 Stockton, '96 Payton, and '05 Billups.)

Other than Reggie Miller, this is a dominant defensive lineup. With Pippen's and KG's defensive versatility and ability to cover entire areas, Reggie's limited defensive presence is nullified. Team defense is more important than individual defense anyways.

The OP's team consisted of players who each were the #1 scoring options for their teams. No player avg. fewer than 22ppg, and three avg. over 25ppg. The offensive chemistry on that team would be horrible. This is significant because how each player played the game in the seasons indicated must be considered. '87 Magic can't be chosen, and then say he wouldn't look to score. If a pass-first Magic or a less offensive minded Duncan were desired then maybe the '85 and '07 versions, respectively, should have been chosen.

Of my team, during the seasons mentioned, the only two players who were clearly their team's first scoring options were Hakeem and Miller. (You could argue Kidd was, but he still avg. only 14.7ppg and played in a very balanced offense.) Hakeem provides dominant inside scoring, while Miller provides quality outside and clutch shooting, spacing the floor. (Outside shooting is another reason why I considered Stockton or Billups. With them you don't give up that much defensive presence either.) Pippen and KG were content not be first options but could easily given you 20+ points if necessary. So this team would not suffer offensively.

While my team is obviously a drop in overall talent compared to the OP's team, it yet consists of hall of fame players in or near their prime, and I feel it would have more synergy.

nice analysis. i agree that the best version would be 85 magic, but not 07 duncan, give me 03 every single day. he is smart enough to select his shots.

They'd never have a chance unless the OP's team played man.
