.... how can anyone get to 6-10 if they haven't stated their top 5 first?

Do you put on aftershave and then not shave all day?

I think the vast majority of people have the same top 5 centers: Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq and Hakeem in no particular order.

Mikan gets seriously disrespected. But what are we going by, how good we think they are relative to one another, their impact on the game, or their overall career accomplishments?

Don't go out and give him the Russell treatment and just think he is at 6 or something..be realistic and give a honest ranking on how he would translate in any era ,accomplishments and numbers .

If I'm being honest, I'm really only here so I can get my blog content out there a little bit more. I came here today for the first time in years planning on starting one thread about this article profiling the late 90s/early 2000s generation of the NBA (http://chapsketblog.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/roundball-rewind-waving-goodbye-to-a-generation/), but I apparently need a set number of posts before I can create a thread.

If I can't make that thread by my 20th post, you might not see me again until 2019 :D

I don't have any idea how he would translate. Maybe that's why he tends to get ignored? If you go by career accomplishments or impact on the game, then he's top 5.

Maybe the question should be, your top 5 centers in an all-time fantasy draft have been taken, who's left on your board ranked from 6-10?

I'd say:

M. Malone
Bob McAdoo
Bill Walton
Nate Thurmond
Patrick Ewing

WillC
08-19-2014, 03:36 PM
6 - Moses Malone
7 - George Mikan
8 - David Robinson
9 - Willis Reed
10 - Patrick Ewing

Moses
Mikan
Reed
Robinson
Ewing

I always make my own lists before looking at everyone else's.

Great minds think alike. Almost identical.

I rank the centers more for their on court impact than anything else. If Wilt, Russell, Abdul Jabbar, Shaq and Hakeem are off the boards then I'll go with the following:

6. Moses
7. Robinson
8. Ewing
9. Walton
10. Reed

No Thurmond? Mourning? Howard? :kobe:
May revise this with further reflection.

2. KAJ
3. Russell
4. Shaq
5. Duncan (as a center)
6. Moses
7. Hakeem
8. Robinson

After that...Reed, Moses, Thurmond, Ewing, McAdoo, Lanier, Cowens, Gilmore, and probably some other's that I forgot...

BTW, Moses outplayed KAJ in the majority of their 40 career H2H's, and in some, he shelled him. Having said that, though, I think a PRIME Kareem, from '70 thru '77 would have been a much better matchup, and a PEAK KAJ, from mid-way in his rookie season, until the end of his '72 regular season, would have had his way with Moses.

Im gonna pretend the consensus top 5 are Kareem, Wilt, Shaq, Hakeem and Russell (in no order)

6. Moses (should be consensus top 6)
7. Mikan
8. Walton
9. Reed
10. DRob

Next in line - Ewing, Unseld, Lanier, Thurmond

Not everyone falls within the equation:

0 - ISH = life

There is nothing healthy about having 4 alts and posting 2,000+ times a year on each alt like some poor sad souls on here do.

I don't rank players numerically. So after learning a few things about Mikan, my first tier of centers is..

Shaq
Wilt
Russell
Mikan
Kareem

Second tier is Hakeem, who is likely considered the "consensus" top 5.

So after those 6, my remaining four, in no order, would probably be...

Moses
Robinson
Ewing
and probably Reed, but I've never gone this deep with rankings, so I'd have to look further to know.

Thanks. With so many positional (obviously not in this circumstance) and era differences, I try to rank players in regards to how they were related to their peers. Most everything is relative, so I try to include that.

Learning how much Mikan absolutely dominated his competition, and for so long, I can't help but put him in the first tier of players.
