[i]Deputies were able to separate the pair and took them outside the mall. At some point, however, witnesses reported that the man began to violently beat the deputy who escorted him out after the official dropped a set of keys and bent over to pick them up.

The man hit the deputy in the head and then repeatedly kicked him as he was down on the ground, witnesses said.

.......

He was in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery, and was expected to survive.

Damn. I used to rarely side with the police but as I've gotten older and matured quite a bit, I've come to appreciate their jobs more. They never know when danger will strike. It's very unfortunate that this happened to the cop. I hope he didn't suffer any brain damage.

In the end they are no different than anyone else... they just want to go to work do their job and go home. The difference is they chose a career where there's a very real possibility that might not happen if they let their guard down even for a second

Honestly, I don't know how they do it... I couldn't

Why people assume unarmed means zero threat I will never understand.

Over the years I've become a much more paranoid person in public. I wouldn't say it's anxiety but I watch my back a lot. I don't like having my back to people in a restaurant or even at the movies. Whether you like or not you're taking a chance that the person behind you isn't crazy. It's a scary world we live in right now.

Time to seek some mental help. You live in Portland, which has the lowest crime rate of any metro area in the US(or did). If you lived in Chicago or DC, your head would probably explode. My cousins live there, they say it's chill as hell(no pun int).

If you're going to use this to argue in favor of the cops in Ferguson.. this is a bad example. The cop would've taken further precautions and shot the "thug" if he was black.

Unarmed Caucasian beat the cop for the record.
True, the point is unarmed suspect doesnt equal zero threat

This is the complete opposite of Fergusson (or at least the Michael Brown apostle POV). :biggums: :lol

You are absolutely right. The cop failed to defend himself with deadly force against an unarmed assailant and the result is a violent criminal is alive and well, while the cop may be "retarded" for the rest of his life. Correct again.

The officer didn't follow protocol so he was injured. He made himself vulnerable to attack. Very sad. I hope he fully recovers and the criminal is convicted

Why cant cops just take non-lethal shots and not spray out bullets like a damn cod game.

True. But the unbolded assumes Fergusson cop was met with deadly force and had no choice but to shoot to kill. You don't know that.. thus, ph****try arises.

Damn you're dumb....

I guess y'all gonna continue to search the web to find incidents that justifies the cop in the Fergusson situation :facepalm

Yeah I don't get the ops line of reasoning. This cop failed to secure a suspect so just to be sure cops should shoot any one that could possibly pose a threat.....

Also unless this unarmed thug was 20-30 feet away from the cop, it's not a comparable situation.

Well he had weed in his system so he obviously turned into the incredible hulk and lept 35 feet in a single bound.

Yet, if he would have, the media would have picked it up as an ambition Grand Wizard hunted down an innocent child!
