 Cracked me up way more than it should have.
And honestly, it's the closest it's ever been, but I don't want to cheat and say it's a tie so I'll go with the one with the championship experience. It's really a:
1a. LeBron
1b. Durant
type thing though.

I'll say LeBron because he still dominates them in the head to head games.

Durant is still on the ascent with a lot of capacity to improve while Lebron is not.
Even without ANY post game whatsoever, Durant already passed up Lebron statistically last season.
Once he gets a post game to go along with go-to scoring moves out of a pre-dribble stationary position (triple threat position), so he can dominate against the tightest of defenses like Dirk and Bird did, and so he can't be exploited by guys like cp3 and Bellinelli guarding him - then he will REALLY show separation from Lebron.

This is very true.... part of the reason he struggled at times in the 2014 playoffs is because defenses play much harder and scheme better, so they don't allow the same type of buckets in the postseason -
For Durant, this would be any long dribbling foray and open shots off screens - in the playoffs, these ways in which Durant likes to score get shut down more often once a defense is playing really hard.
This is why when the defense takes these things away, he has to be able to dominate a game from the block with post moves and a killer turnaround jumper, like all the other greats.

Durant averaged 30/10 in the playoffs vs the Grizzlies/Clippers/Spurs. Don't tell LeBron stans that though, LeBron who, cramped up, gassed out, sat the final 8 minutes of the final game, had more turnovers than assists, and got outplayed by Kawhi Leonard, was apparently some sort of monster in the playoffs. :lol
But no, Durant who dropped 40 on the Clippers one game, and 39/16 in the elimination, and who SLAYED the Grizzlies in both elimination games.... and led the playoffs in scoring despite not even making the Finals.... Yeah... That Durant apparently got "shut down."
LeBron stans are so deluded it's really just comedy at this point. Durant was easily the best player in the NBA last season and LeBron's peak was 2 years ago. If that somehow gives you a reason to believe that Durant won't be the best player in the NBA next season, then go ahead. Just don't expect not to get laughed at.

Out in the West he had to face a true contender in every single round. Meanwhile we saw what LeBron did as soon as he met his first true contender in the playoffs:

The Grizzlies won 50 games in the West despite dealing with injury problems all year. When healthy they had one of the best records in the league. And they also did great vs the other contenders in the regular season.
And no, the team that got the 3rd best record in the NBA last season, despite having their own injury issues as well, they aren't a contender... :facepalm

Our supporting cast was terrible last year, but LeBron did take it easier last year especially on defense. That doesn't mean anything though. Just because Durant outplayed him doesn't mean he's better. LeBron just took it easy in the regular season; he's still better than Durant.

I love Durant, but give me Lebron. KD still gets pushed around too much and resorts to shooting three pointers too often. No legitimate reason for KD's free throw percentage to drop to .77% against Memphis and .76% against the Spurs except for succumbing to pressure and nerves.

You saw how awful Durant was in the playoffs. LeBron clearly took it easy. I watched basically every Heat game, LeBron took it easy. And before you say the East is weak, Durant got shut down by some flaws in his game. He needs a post game and to get stronger. I'd still take LeBron right now. He's more of a complete player, but Durant will probably be the best in a year or two.

This is the difference between Durant and Bran.
Durant puts up 30/9/4 vs three contenders in the playoffs, and now that's "awful."
LeBron plays like shit and the story is "he needs more help!"
Durant outplays LeBron all season long and now, "LeBron took it easy."
But switch the roles with LeMediaDarling outplaying Durant all year, and "Durant won't be the best until he proves it with his play..."

Lebron w/o question
The only thing Durant did better this season was shoot more and get to the Ft line to pad those offensive numbers.:lol
Durant had to take 3 more shots and almost 3 more Ft's per game to avg 5 more points whereas lebron gets buckets without be heavily reliant on Ft's

This...Lebron has earned the right to be called the best in the world..but people are too quick to dismiss the fact that KD was outplaying Lebron for a huge chunk of the season. Dude put up 35/7/6/1/1 on 65% TS over 3 months, with a month of 36/7/6/2/1 on 68% TS..And his team was winning, a large part of it without Westbrook.
Lebron is better right now, which is what the thread asks for. But if we're projecting into next year, it's really not that clear-cut. If Durant improves his post game and increases his intensity on defense..anything can happen.
