View Full Version : OT: Will EA Sports realize that Live is absolute garbage?

Honestly, I cannot stand to play more than 5 minutes of this game at a time. It's filled with frustrating bugs(such as computers don't make substitutions based on their f*cking stamina), the non-existent stealing ability(you must have to press 'x' 10,000 times before it attempts a pass interception...), the horrible computers that has Eric Snow shoot 34 FG attempts while Lebron shoots 8, and the horrid gameplay.

I don't want a f*cking 'superstar' mode where you can do awesome unrealistic dunks, I wanted to play a goddamn basketball game.

I got it for free and I think I'm going to throw it in the trash anyway.

Anyway, despite that mindless rant, does EA actually realize everyone thinks this product sucks? Any news that they will fire the whole Live department and bring in people that know what they are doing?

They just need to start from scratch...

The 2k games beat EA's by miles.
In 2k games, the flow of the game seems more realistic, people are getting realistic averages (not TJ Ford and other PG's putting up 35 a night, like in a season of Live i played), better shooting system, and overall, just a better game.

Did I mention that it realeses $20 cheaper than Live?

2KSports franchise sh!ts all over EA's Live. That goes for pretty much every sport they've released. Live is just hogwashed garbage, over and over every single year. They sell units because of the "Live" name. 2K exceeds expectations with every new release. And they actually listen to fan suggestions.

Considering NBA Live gets exponentially worse every single year, the answer is "No, EA Sports will not realize that Live is absolute garbage, and will continue to churn out an even buggier and unrealistic piece of flaming sh&t next year."

I predict that in Live 08, we'll get an UltrasuperstarMode so that now, Lebron James and company can do halfcourt flying tomahawk reverse windmill dunks through traffic

Yeah same here. Well, you're pretty lucky, you got it free. I paid $50 for a piece of crap game..

Definetly not going to buy Live 08, unless EA decides to completely remake it.

on youtube, there was a video showcasing the development of Live 07 with some interviews with the chief programmers. Compared to 2k7, the entire mindset was blatantly different. All the Live developers were talking about were "being able to pull off even sicker dunks and passes, even more fancy moves, enhanced superstar modes, etc"

It was such bullsh&t and truly showed the state of mind that the entire Live series is approached from. It's pathetic

06 is trash, every time i play on allstar mode and face tony paker (or any other pg) he ends up with 40, shooting 3s and getting my bigs in foul trouble. I get him on my team and he misses 2 open fast break layups in a row and when i try to get inside he gets blocked by a bum like frye or curry.

No way to play defense and if you want to win all you need is a dunker or a power big man.

You got to be kidding, that has to be the worst game I've ever played.

You can enjoy it if you enjoy missing 90% of your open dunks by 7 footers. Or your fast breaks consist of fadeaway hookshots when a open layup is available.

Probably the only game worse than Live 07 is 2K3. They made so many improvements in 2K4.

2k has been better than Live since, um the very first 2k in 99. Quite frankly I'm still stunned at the ammount of people "wondering which game to get" every year. I mean it's not like it's one dude's opinion, every year, with the exception of 2003 (the year 2k3 got a bit too complicated and Live first introduced the cool gimmick "freestyle) 2k has beaten Live in the ratings/reviews BY A HUGE MARGIN. Every publication, every year.

Really, by 2007, you're still wondering if 2k is better, or if you're still playing Live and are only NOW starting to complain, then in Will Smith's words, that's "YO FAULT".

The worse thing is that it is almost impossible to find a copy of NBA 2K7 in Hong Kong, I went to the store two weeks after it came out in USA and that guy says it has sold out, all 10 copies, I was like, "Bullsh** why can't the 2K company market their things better?!":banghead: Then I went to England and rented 2k7 (I didn't go there just for the game of course) and it completely blew me away. Pros about 2K7:

Emulates shooters style, its soo good, got a bit harder to shoot with different players though.

Free throws were excellent, I will never understand the concept of Live's free throw shooting.

No Superstar mode. Makes the game more realistic.

PGs don't score 70 points in a game, somehow dish 15 assists and Kobe Bryant gets 7 points.

24/7 is a great mode to play, but it can't compare to:

Dynasty Mode of Live. That's probably the best feature of NBA Live along with All-Star weekend. the 2K series definitely needs to get their hands on Dynasty, and All-star weekend, it will improve their already great game.
..............

Of course, now I only have my NBA Live 06 but it's better than nothing.

EA Sport games suck and are very overrated, yes even Madden. 2K always goes a job of bring realism into sports gaming. Even with NFL 2K, It always made it feel like i was watching a real game as opposed to Madden.

Not just gameplay, but EA sucks at presentation also. They have the ESPN license and they barley do jack sh!t with it. When 2K had the ESPN license, they milked it for all it's worth. NFL 2K had halftime shows with Chris Berman, highlights and even had Mel doing prospect reviews. Hell, NFL 2K7 had first person football mode! It was awesome. NBA 2K has a halftime show with highlights, Craig Sager in his suits and just about every camera angle you can think of. 2K just does the better overall job it making sports games as realistic as possible

Howard5Dirk41

Thank god 2k is making a next gen football game this summer, even if its not about the NFL, it will still embarress Madden.

You people need to buy a console for gaming... the xbox360 is gonna last till 2012, you wont need to upgrade every year plu they dont have the problems PC games normally have, like having the wrong drivers, compatability issues, you just put in the game and hit power.

i gave up playing live years ago. i got tired of being able to just run down the court every possession and throw down dunks and 3s. the 2k series is much slower and more realistic. live was way too easy. i have 2k7 for ps3 and its a real good game. except i keep gettin my a$$ kicked. im the knicks n im 3-18 right now lol. i like the fact that the game aint easy and ill lose my share of games but im gettin murdered lol. it probably has to do with the knicks ratings and me not being so used to the game yet, and ill probably figure it out. i also havent been setting up practices for my players so maybe thats why.

I was a dedicated Live since the first one, but when I got 2K5 and played that 24/7 mode, it was over. In fact 24/7 was all I played on 2K5. I still love Live '04 because the graphics changed so drastically, plus it was the Class of '03's first year. I hated '05, they changed the graphics again and the dunk contest had nothing on NBA Street Vol. 3. '06 redeemeed itself with the Superstar option, but the graphics were still ugly. I didn't even get '07, I just got 2K7(PS2), which is much better. Only thing is no 24/7 mode!! :banghead:

Yeah, but my consol is a 'real' version so I doubt the discs they have on sale in 289 or 360 will be real. I just couldn't resist that offer Toys r us had for an Xbox, one consol with 4 games, around 1k HKD, and add 1 dollar for an extra handset and game.

Good news to everyone. NBA Live 2009 is delayed until early 2009(As apose to late 2008) because of their "Programmers knowing too much about programs and too little about basketball", I got that from IGN or something.

That's because there are still people out there that will buy it no matter what because it's EA. Like everyone is saying, the sales are still there, so they can keep making it.

I also read that EA is buying up "exclusive rights" to sports leagues left and right. I swear I read in one of my old GameInformers that EA just bought exclusive rights to the NFL and there will be no 2K football anymore.

EA also was looking at buying Rockstar games, or whoever the hell owns the current GTA franchise.

It's really disappointing. The only redeeming quality Live has, is it DOES have phenomenal commentating. I can't get over that. I wish there was a way to pop the EA commentary into 2K8.

Last good Live game was '04. The cartoony characters were goofy, but the gameplay was great, and you could even time your blocks and shots, etc. Unfortunately, they don't make enough creatable players spots to update the rosters back that far.

Someone brought up NBA Jam. Does anyone else think the market is open for a 5 on 5 version of NBA Jam, maybe even like a Rock 'n Jock type deal?

Seems like if EA maybe split their guys into two different basketball games, maybe they'd have more success. This is our realistic version, this is our NBA Jam version. And that would be fine. I had fun with NBA Jam as a kid, but I still played Live (back then we didn't have 2k sports).

this is the absolute truth.

If you paid me $20 for something that was half broken, but KEPT buying it, what incentive do i have to actually fix it when there is NO other major competition?

the answer is to just stop buying the product. being the ONLY one available isn't a reason to buy it unless you NEED it, in which case you could probably sue for quality assurance

personally, i quit around live 05 because the game was starting to get atrocious with 04 and 05 was just the same thing with an extra turd packaged.

EA did manage to buy-out the College Basketball license though.

College 2k8 on PS3 will be the last 2k game for quite awhile.

I'de recommend getting it now. If you're into team management there is nothing like recruiting a player, playing him in college, then exporting him to NBA 2k8 and drafting him to your franchise...

Right, but they extended the license this year. The previous license was good until 2010. The new one gives them exclusive rights all the way to 2013. And like the other posters mentioned, they're working on getting the NCAA rights next.

Not only does it give them exclusive rights, but even if they don't extend the license, it gives them a chance to work on a game years before any other brand.

I thought it was actually close to good, but I only play online and between fatigue being absolutely irrelevant and the amazing stamina of a center running up the middle / catch and dunk combo, I sold the game on eBay.

That's horrible. I didn't know they renewed!
