I get the feeling that Reggie Jackson is going to be traded just before the season starts, and possibly for Greg Monroe. This looks eerily similar to the James Harden situation two years ago.
I'd be all in for this.

Not possible, even if Monroe signed for just the qualifying offer, he would still make far more than Reggie.

Kevin Durant should pay out of pocket to keep Reggie. :coleman:

No more KD bailouts?

I'm pretty sure the Thunder would have to pay him the max to extend him. They'll let him become a restricted free agent and extend him then or match a reasonable offer.

OKC out in the 1st round next year I guess

Not that big of a deal. Throw in an expirer like Collison and it should work.

And Perk's contract comes off the books next summer. We'll have the leverage to match any offer for Reggie, which is what I suspect happens.

 Their cheapskate owner is literally costing OKC the championship. First Harden, now Reggie Jackson.

You hillbilly clowns stay losing.

We've won 2 championships. It's been a while, but we have been to the 2nd round.

Shit, how is OKC expected to win anything when their owner is cheap as Hell. You're not gonna win with 2 players.

Lol people questioning this or trying to make this about cheapness are retarded.

We'll shed like 15 Million next offseason by losing Perk and Collison and then it will be much easier to keep Reggie. As it stands we don't have the funds to re sign him now.

Basically, if he wants to play in OKC, then he'll resign next year. If he doesn't, then he'll walk. It's as simple as that.

I live right near OKC (the closest local team to me by far) but not actually in OKC. Though I usually go to a few OKC games each year.

Oddly enough I plan on moving to Seattle after college, where I'll still be an OKC fan :lol

OKC has the money to sign him to an extension right now, which I believe would kick in for the 2015-2016 season. They just don't want to sign him right now, as they could be wanting to maintain as much cap flexibility (most likely reason for this ) next summer as they possibly can, even with an increased cap hold as he hits RFA. They could literally throw him a max extension right now and it'd have no bearing on their salary cap/luxury tax implications for the 2014-2015 season. They have funds, they're just electing to not use them at this time.

FWIW, they probably want more proof of the level of play he showed last year, especially in that one game against Memphis (totally saved their season imo).

Re: Monroe situation- if OKC snags Monroe from Detroit, that could catapult them to absolute favorite status. Had been saying they should have tried to pull off an expirings + picks deal for him. Ibaka is one of the best fits next to Monroe in the whole league.

There were some bad contracts issued to players this summer, like Gordon Haywood, that has thrown the pay scale of what a player should make out of whack.

I like Reggie Jackson, he's a good young player. But he isn't really worth a maximum contract, he just isn't. Before the summer of crazy ass contracts, I would've put his value between 8 to 10 million per season, maybe 12 million per season at the maximum.

You just can't stop the stupid owners and front office GM's from overpaying for certain players.

Same here. Born in OKC and family lives there but I live in Springfield, Missouri but I still make it to several games a year. As long as we keep Westbrook I'm a happy fan.

I know it wasn't really a story book ending and i hate seeing how we threw out our chances right in the trash. But hey, we had a good season, we made to the post-season i guess it didn't turn out like we thought it would.
Good Job Houston, and i hope we can come back strong next season!

Reggie Jackson has a lot of upside and potential, but I wouldn't be shocked if he just ends up being a Darren Collison 2.0 type of player either.
