I go play down at the local courts on a Sunday and Friday and play comp on a Tuesday night..
Always stuck as to what to eat/drink before a game, what do you guys chow down?
I'd prefer something healthy...

I'd stay away from coffee tbh.. unless you're tired.
I wouldn't eat too much before ball.. peanut-butter and bread isn't bad at all. and take a banana, some juice and water with you (for after basketball).

1) Define before.
2) You're not good enough to think the meal will put you over the top.
3) Being properly hydrated (24 hrs prior and up to) is more important.
4) Bananas help with cramps (potassium) while simple sugars help with short-term energy, and complex sugars and fats help with long-term energy.

I used to eat KFC before HS bball games. Still can't believe that I was able to do that and still play.

Get a proper meal 3-4 hours before, don't go too heavy on fats. Eat complex carbs.
Than have a snack an hour before, make it carbs only - a piece of fruit or some other simple carb. I don't like fats before games, the digest slowly and make me feel tired.
Get some carbs in after the game is finished (or better, a proper meal). The sooner, the better - it helps the body to replenish the glycogen levels faster. The level of glycogen restores in 24 hours in any case, but if you have another game or a workout sooner, this will help greatly.

Chicken, Brown Rice, and Broccoli a few hours before.
Then just water until after I play.
I also used to pound some Wendys before playing any sport back in High School. If I did that now I'd barf.

For you? I'd say some arsenic acid or other rat poison would be ideal.
you are a pathetic human being, if you even qualify as one. You should have been swallowed at birth and Earth would have celebrated its first independence day... from stupidity.

For some people it is indeed effective. However OP figure out how your body responds to exercising on caffeine before you try it in a game.
For example, caffeine decreases my cardiovascular endurance and makes me feel more tired. It makes me feel like crap and the worst is feeling like you need to take a crap.

I would carb Load before playing a game of basketball ( 2- 3 hours prior at least)
Pasta / Breads with a serving of Protein I.E. Chicken Breast and or a lean cut of steak.
You will need extra energy to play at a high level for 1 - 2 hours...
Example: Serving of Pasta with a chicken Breast ( try to stay away from too much sugary sauces like canned spaghetti sauce or BBQ sauce as it will spike your glucose levels and you may crash in an hour)
or a cut of lean steak and Rice or Breads, drink lots of water at least 3 - 5 glasses before the game.

Water. Eat afterward.
This is ideal. When I was younger I could go without eating but now I sometimes get headaches after playing if I haven't ate anything.
If I hoop in the morning I would eat something light like a 2 eggs and sausage or a sandwhich.
If I go in the afternoon I just eat whatever like an hour or 2 before.

I like this option best.
Plenty of good options here though, good job ISH :applause:
Has anyone got a food they stay away from before a game that makes them sick during?
I've eaten subway/KFC about 2 hours before game and felt like the food was still sitting in my guts like an anchor :(

Nothing that made me sick. Maybe liquor but I try not to eat greasy foods before.
Actually I tried fried chicken before hooping and I had to shit like 20 mins into playing.

if you're gonna eat right before i'd recommend fast carbs ie fruits but 2-3 hours before complex carbs/fats might be your best bet. always have a bit of protein.

You don't want to get too full, just something to put in your stomach and give you a energy, egg whites, toast, and a banana is what I use to eat before a game. Deli-meat Turkey Sandwich on wheat bread and orange juice.
If your not really health conscious, a couple of slices of pizza and a bottle of water will also do. Just do eat the whole pizza.

Whey protein isolate with a banana.
Is it good to mix protein isolates with fruit, from a muscle building perspective?
I have some Twinlab whey protein and it's disgusting, so I've thought about mixing it with some berries.

Protein powder is a supplement, just convenent and on the go. If you can have real food then eat real food. I normally take whey and fruit 1 hr before a workout. And yes you can mix ur whey with fruit.. Thats like saying can i eat my rice with chicken in one bite lol. I'd recommend MTS whey (cookies and creme) its the cheapest serving size / price ratio I've seen so far and taste decent.
