There was a week where there were these giant ass (2 inch long +) beetles that sat on these little dirt hills and reared up like a protective spider when approached. Looked up what they were and they only come out from underground for a week or 2 per year to mate in July. Scary f*ckers, but nothing too dangerous.

I live at 7000 feet elevation, so it actually feels like Oregon. It has been thunder and lightning about once every 3 days for the last month, and sunny the other 2/3 of the days. I'm in an apartment. Our complex just had a BBQ on Thursday and the people seemed cool, but I'm not close with any of them yet. Some pretty cool co-workers, and the people in town seem good in general.

In the mean time, I'll leave you with this: Somebody spilled paint on the pavement of my old place and it landed looking like the Batman symbol. I noticed it while walking with my gf and said "Look!" while pointing down at it. She ran screaming thinking I was pointing out a spider.

I have yet to develop a strong friend group here in Flagstaff and less time to get settled in general, so it is hard to say. SoCal was more fun, with big parties, big cities (meaning tons of options of what to do), and the ocean. I'm liking Flagstaff's summer weather more, the prices of things are way more affordable, and the "average person" seems nicer. I specify "average" because there are some sketchier outliers in Flagstaff that make me uneasy, including people wearing confederate flags on their shirts/belts, somebody yelling "Jungle Fever" at my gf and I as they drove by (not particularly harmful, but shows that interracial couples stand out in the area), and even seeing a car that was keyed with the words "**** black people" on it. Time will tell if we ultimately like it more or less.

As for Oregon, yes, I'd love to go back there. I have a one year contract right now and ideally my next job will be longer lasting and either in the Portland or Seattle areas so I can be closer to family.
