Yeah it's horrible. It's done in this sneaky way by the Russians, so the world is not agitated enough to really do something.

It was predicted for things to escalate in the end of August, because it's the time when a lot of people working in EU institutions are having holidays.

US said more sanctions, but they aren't forever. It cannot be let to dwindle down to normalcy.

when the world knows what his intentions are, why is he bothered to keep playing this charade? like he keeps telling the EU he is just trying to send aid but they/we all know what he's trying to do.

i mean its so obvious at this point those might as well just be military treucks loaded with munitions/weapons.

i guess making them prove it is still beneficial to him at this point because he's dealing with such pooosee leaders :confusedshrug:

proxy wars are always obvious. it's been the preferred type of combat since world war two for all the powerful states in the world. whether people want to find out about them is up to them. clearly you have had no trouble uncovering russian proxy aggression in the ukraine since it so happens that story is making headlines in international newspapers every single day.

other cases eerily similar do not get the same coverage.

putin is playing this game because he's in a position of power. european economic interests have a lot invested in eu ties with russia. putin knows this and understands probably pretty well since he's a pretty smart dude how much he can get away with. and just look at the headlines, its clear he IS getting away with it for the time being. maybe he'll become too aggressive or maybe he'll play his cards right and walk this tightrope. it's fascinating.

meanwhile, it's devastating for the people living there. and the crisis in its entirety has as much to do with the eu (and to an extent the us) supported parliament that took over in a coup as it has to do with the course putin has been taking.

Russia wanted Ukraine in this pro Russian trade block that gave them a counterbalance to Europe as well as a gateway into Europe. Instead, they have their economy heading the other way as they fight a war and basically kill all the trade pipelines toward the West.

Everyone talks about Putin being this master strategist but none of this is accomplishing what his initial goal was.

Crazy how scared the US and NATO is to militarily stand up to Russia.

Yeah they should grow some balls. Who cares about the potential of a nuclear exchange or a massive European war? Let's just wing it!
