what are your reactions when you receive a certain tip?

like if you get the "typical" 15%, are you content? excited? disappointed?

how about 10%? or 20%?

what would be the minimum percentage that would make you say "yeah not bad, ill take it"

i feel like the answers today would be much different than 10 years ago. and no, im not trying to start another tip debate.

A tip is not mandatory. Especially if it's a woman who you aren't having sex with.

If you were a waiter why would you give a shit?

It's your employers job to cover your salary, not the customers.

I'm usually indifferent. I know with certain customers/cultures what I'm going to get. When I have indian customers I expect to get like 10% so I don't really care if they barely tip me. When I have good tables and I have fun with them I'm indifferent about the tip because I enjoy giving the customers a good experience.

I'm also aware that if a bill is going to be $100+ people will be less likely to tip 20% because it's going to be a big tip, at that point I'd just be happy with like 20 bucks or something. You'll quickly learn that some day's you'll make no money, and some days you'll make bank. My worst day was $10 and my best day was $140

Are you implying you tip hookers?
No. Because I would never tip a whore.

No. Because I would never tip a whore.
Yet you still goad little children into your "ice-cream truck" with "free ice-cream"...

so what is the minimum tip percentage that you would be content with (ignore the race of the customer)?

if everyone tipped 15% would you accept that?

It just eventually turns into that usually. :D

Don't tip by percentage. Tip by workload.

true.

i was just really curious because 15% used to be the norm so i wonder if a waiter is offended if they get 15% these days.

I was usually pretty annoyed with anything less than 15%.

how are you suppose to do that?

You just have to play it by ear. I'm not going to tip more for an expensive meal just because it has pricier ingredients, unless it was just a pain in the butt to prepare (tip pools these days). I'm also not going to tip more just because the bottle of wine costs $100 rather than 20$. I also won't screw somebody over just because I ordered all the cheap shit. Just consider the work load, the stress the waiter (and the kitchen in case of tip pool) is under, how the waiter treated you, etc. There are a ton variables. I would consider myself a generous tipper though. I frequently leave tips for cheap orders that are very high % because I don't base my tipping on the %. So overall my tipping method is very generous, I would say.

I'm a delivery driver so it's different but I get annoyed with anything below $3. If I get a stiff I'll deliver that person last. If they continually stiff me I will hold off on their drive until I can pair it up with another one I'll make money on.

Doesn't bother me too much. For every poor tipper there is one that tips extra well. It all averages out for the most part.

Another question for waiters/servers... do you have more pride in your job ever since durant wanted to be called the servant and then won the MVP ??:D
