Based on the chemistry disparity alone, it would be a disgrace if the Thunder lose to the Cavs. Not to mention the inexperience of the young Cavs in big moments.

Just so I understand the subtext of what is happening, not just in this thread, but almost every thread in the Main Forum at the moment...
This is about LeBron fans arguing with other player fans, mainly Durant fans, as to who has the better team... because it's actually better to be on a less talented team in this instance?
I've always been baffled by the mind of a player fan. It's often difficult for me to grapple with their twisted logic.

So... would LeBron fans prefer their man be on a team with very little talent? I guess that would be the ultimate goal, no?
If so, the last couple months must have been pretty depressing. Being on a good team with high expectations is not what you want, right?
Just trying to understand. It seems to me playing with the best players possible would be advantageous for player fans, but I'm sensing the opposite reaction.

Love in particular has been a problem for the Spurs over the last few years. He had something like 45 points and 15 rebounds against them last season.
It may or may not work out, but this Cavs team is going to be completely different from the Heat. Totally different pieces that fit together in a completely different way. It is not a given that the Cavs will make it out of the East, btw.

Honestly, everyone wants their team to have the most talent possible. It's just stupid when people try to use the term "stacked" to say rings don't count. LeBron stans are just throwing it back in the people's faces who said that the rings don't count, especially when teams like OKC are loaded with talent and haven't produced a ring.
It's something you'll only see on the forums, and not something people discuss in real life.

Didn't KD and Russ combine for over 80 points against an OT game vs Wolves one time with Love dropping like 50 himself? I watched that game back in 2012
looking for boxscore....
here it is
http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320323025
Russ & KD combine for 85 points
KD had 40/17/5/3, Love with the 51/14, Russ with the 45
KD was 15/26, Love was 16/27, Russ was 17/28, funny coincidence in terms of makes & FGA huh.

On offense? yes. No way in hell doe Kyire plays as bad as Chalmers did in the finals (chalmers sucked all playoffs last season) and Love will atleast rebound better than Bosh did. Spurs were crushing the Heat on the boards/2nd chances after playing great defense. You must def rebound to finish the play.
Thunder were no comp for the Heat and they wont be for the Cavs either. The only team that scares me from the West is the Spurs.

He also never has any trouble with the Thunder. Cleveland could have a real good team, depends on how that mix of James & Love goes. But for a fact, they better get Waiters and Irving heavily involved on offense and keep them involved or they're going to struggle at the point. Both those guys want to score and they may get some mentality problems if they get moved into pure roles. Neither one of them has even a clue about the Derek Fisher view of pointguard in basketball - play in the pocket, always do the right thing on the floor and for the team, even though in his early days Fish was a real offensive threat.
But the key, and that pun is intended, for the Cavs season is going to be Varejao & Haywood.
Love is going to get his usual insane numbers of boards, and his defense will continue to be underrated by a lot of guys who don't know how to watch what's happening off ball in the paint. Love's rotations & reads are real good when he understands the defensive scheme, but his motivation needs a strong hand from the coaches. Adleman mailed it in on defense a lot. On the other hand, Love won't have to carry the offense (which he should not have been doing in Minnesota either but he did) and he may be more effective on D than we've seen the last couple years.
But most of all, Love is not going to the rim against anybody who breaks down the perimeter defense. He is absolutely an elite player but he does not leap.
The centers are going to have to handle that and if Cleveland doesn't spend hours and days focusing on team defense to allow for that fact....... it's gonna go hard on Cavs.

Good post.
But, to the bolded part, have you watched any of Irving playing with the national team this offseason? He seems to have completely adapted his game to that format, playing alongside other scorers, and has looked to pass far more than he has looked to score. He finished the four exhibition games with 19 assists (leading the team) against just 2 turnovers.
Additionally, in 83 minutes of play over those four games, he was 14-of-22 from the field. As much as he has been handling the ball, a little over 10 shots per 40 minutes shows you the kind of adaptation he's made to those surroundings.
Obviously, trying to extrapolate a player's game in international competition as it compares to the NBA is almost impossible, but it does show you that Irving is willing to run an offense and not necessarily look for his own shot first when he is surrounded by talent.
I don't think you should jump to conclusions based on his first three years in Cleveland as to how he'll play with this group. He was the team's best shooter, scorer, playmaker, ball-handler, etc. It's a difficult balance for a young player when he's asked to carry the scoring load and set up his teammates. He struggled with that side of it.
Now, he has choices. I think he could become a very good traditional point guard with his ability to beat guys off the dribble, and his solid midrange and longrange shooting acumen should create plenty of spacing.
There are a lot of variables with this team and we don't have many answers (none, actually) at this stage. What kind of offense will Blatt put into place? Who is going to be the primary ball-handler? How is Waiters going to be utilized? Will LeBron accept a lower usage rate and begin changing his game a bit as he enters his 30s? How will Irving fit into an offense that will see him handling the ball less?
All valid questions. But, I've watched every professional game that Irving and Waiters have played in and I'm not going to even attempt to define either of them in this new system with this much talent around them. It's a new day in Cleveland and their old roles are out the window. It could be to their betterment or detriment. Personally, I'd anticipate the former.

good. No I haven't seen any of the international stuff but that's real good to hear.
Remember when Irving came into the league he was rook with Rubio and there were lots of comparisons going on between who was going to be better at running an offense?
It's been just about impossible to compare because of all the things you say about Cleveland - KI has had to do it all just to compete, while Rubio has had 2 great scorers in the paint and while K Martin did not maintain a high level of scoring, it looked like he finally had a perimeter threat too, last year. Ricky9 was also hampered by Adleman, who stupidly rejected Rubio's style of play and forced him into a role he wasn't suited for (strangely enough, exactly Irving's role).
I'm a shameless Pekovic stan these days so I'll be watching Wolves hoops but good luck Cleveland!!

i think mentality issues or character issues are come out more on teams that are struggling. It's much easier to play a role when the team is on cruise control during the regular season.
Everybody paints Dion as this brooding malcontent, when in reality Kyrie was much more of the diva that Dion ever was. All Dion does is say "I wanna start".
Should we all want him to say he'd rather come off the bench?
