View Full Version : Should I stay with my Android or go to an iPhone?

I have an LG G2, but i'm getting sick of it. I've owned an Android for like the past 4 or so years now. Haven't owned an iPhone ever since the 4 came out. Is it worth the move from Android to iPhone? Any noticeable difference(s) from back then to now?

Stay with android

There is quite a bit of difference between the 5(bigger screen, IOS 7/8, faster, camera, fingerprint, siri, build) and the 4.
However, the Iphone 6 is rumored to be revealed at a September 12 event. Wait the few weeks before getting a 5/5S. And even if you don't want the 6, the 5S will be reduced on price when the 6 comes out.

Stay with Android. iPhones break way too easily.

Thanks for the info. I heard about the fingerprint unlock thing. Pretty cool feature.
But i'm actually just swapping my LG G2 for an iPhone 5S. Just torn if I should go back to an iPhone after owning an Android for so many years now. Not sure if it's gonna be an upgrade or downgrade.

wtf you typing about? Htc one and any good android can't take out either. Smh.
Standard in all phones. Smh.
But yo, I had androids until December when I got my first iPhone.
iPhone> Android bruh. All day.
Just overall quality, feel reliability iphone > android.
I can seriously only remember one time in 9 months were it froze.

A windows phone? Nope, never really looked into one. Are they even comparable to Apple and Android devices?

Android > iOS
Much more customizable.
If you're stupid with electronics and can't even use a computer properly besides the internet browser, get an iPhone. It's stupid easy to use. That's why so many people have them.

Yeah, actually the HTC One M8 is available with Windows.
Just looked this phone up. Really great reviews. Ranked as the best phone of 2014 so far.
Would've considered this one if I knew about this phone earlier lol. Friend kinda wants a decision from me by tomorrow since i've been stalling on this deal for about a week now.
But I think I might go back to an iPhone...

I have an S4 and I'm switching to iphone first chance I get. too many problems with my S4, sometimes can't even send MMS messages, apps won't dl, can't receive pictures..... and iphones don't break easy at all, my friend has an iphone he dropped in a glass of coke and still works perfectly. another friend dropped his out of a moving car and still works.
Same problems with mine as well. Lot of glitches and bugs, even after software updates. Phone freezes A LOT while swiping screen to screen.
Only thing I actually really like is the camera quality and speakers.

My S5 has been nothing short of amazing. Never any freezes or glitches. Battery life isn't great tho.
Tons of people swear by I phone. I feel it isn't as customizable. And you are FORCED to create all sorts of apple accounts and sh1t. I don't like all that.
Try out the i phone and if you don't like it return it. Most places give you 30 days to try out a phone.

Maybe you got a "lemon" of a phone Goliath. Idk
I do agree I phones are much easier to operate and take advantage of all the features.
I will say that the speakers and sound on the S5 is extremely underwhelming. They can also be a little confusing as far as learning the ins and outs of operating androids and fully taking advantage of what th ey have to offer

Like I said, MMS messages sometimes won't send, can't receive pictures sometimes, my phone will randomly restart over and over again (one time made me late for work cause my alarm didn't go off), the music thingy I DL'd is all fvcked up, and literally no apps will DL. and any app or internet browser I use is usually slow as shit.
You got a buggy phone. Use your insurance/warranty to replace it. My mom has an S4, I have three co workers with an S5, one with a Galaxy Note 3, and I have an LG G3. All of our phones work flawlessly. You can't base your opinion on an entire OS based on one buggy phone.

Had a Galaxy s4, liked it a lot. Got the new Motorola Moto X...love it even more might be the most underrated phone.
I have an iPhone 4 (still have it) & iPhone 5 which i "upgraded" to and then sold.... difference? Nothing notable/i care about really... thats why i sold it.... i didnt feel like i upgraded until i went with Android afterwards instead, specifically speaking Samsung Galaxy S4.... when i was getting to know it and when especially i was watching movies/playing/surfing for the first time on that massive screen with those visuals alone it screamed "Yep! Now this is what i call an upgrade!"....
No matter what anybody here says, size of the screen DOES matter, its just a much better experience surfing/playing/watching.... you feel like its a downgrade all the time your new "better" phone has a smaller screen.... if you are one of those rare ones who dont care at all about surfing/gaming/video/visual experience then sure, be my guest, iPhone 5.... why not an old school Nokia 8210 instead while at it if you dont care so much about that....

Iphone because of facetime, without having to rely on 3rd party programs, ain't nobody got time for that.
Start using your Android phone to its true potential and you'll disappoint yourself on why you wanted to switch. Root it, and install roms. Speed up the processor. Slow it down.

I switched to iPhone because I got tired of Android fragmentation. I'd buy the best and highest rated Android on the market and within a year it lost total support for the flavor of the week Android phone. They'd be glitchy and a pain in the ass to use for the remainder of the contract before I could get a new phone.
Android phones are also massively overhyped. They destroy the iPhone on paper but use a canned OS. Any edge they had in performance gets lost due to not having as good software integration as iOS/iPhone.
As much as people want to hate on Apple, they have great customer service and stand behind their products. I've been lucky to get a shitty refurb from HTC or LG mailed out to me after going a week with no phone and paying a $50 deductible. I took my phone into an Apple store when I was having problems with the volume buttons and they gave me a new phone and switched the service on the spot. No deductible, never paid for the Apple Care or insurance on the phone.

reliability and quality --> iphone
customizability and new features --> android
I don't need to wirelessly stream HD movies and install custom super hero themes or some sh*t to my phone. I run a business with mine. I can't deal with a phone that locks up, is slow, eats battery, etc.
Had an HTC before, i'll never go back. Android just doesn't run as smooth.

I had a S4 before and a few other android phones and made the switch to apple sometime in December. Sure android phones are more customizable. However my s4 lagged at times and apps frequently crashed. Google maps gps wasn't reliable and would crash, the music player is shit and other apps would crash frequently.
Now on the iPhone I rarely face any app crashes and the phone iOS works flawlessly. I do miss the ability to upgrade my memory, replace my battery and I fuxking hate ITunes.
I think it depends. If you want to use your phone as an all in one machine get an android. If you want to use mainly for texting, browsing the web, music playing and taking pics get an iPhone. Also if you have other Mac products using an iPhone is better with the integration of their services.
The iPhone 6 is rumored to have a bigger screen so if that's an issue I would wait a few weeks.

This. You see a lot of the android users talk about customizing, etc. which is cool but not necessary for a lot of people. For some people though that's all they want to do.

Get an LG G3. I've had mine for a couple of months and absolutely love it. 3 GB of RAM'll make sure you don't experience some of the slowness you'd get from earlier Android models.
Not to mention a 3000 mAH battery.
for me, all higher end phones are pretty much all the same since i only use it for basic shit: email, internet, whatsapp, just simple shit. for my needs, i only care about the battery life.

Note 3 has been awesome for me. I use it as both a business and personal phone and it has worked great for both. Fast and reliable with a lot of useful features like split screen and all the S Pen stuff. Plus the battery is enormous and it is a very rare occurrence when it doesn't last me all day. I'd consider switching to iPhone simply because I've never had one and I'd like to test it out but I have zero complaints about Samsung.

I've had this happened to me when I'm using a shit carrier like simple mobile. The moment I switch my Sim card out and went to T-Mobile everything works perfect.
Mms and problems with picture message downloads or sending is a network issue not the phone. You can try fixing the settings in settings and network or switch to a reliable carrier like I did. I got tired of not being able to see or send picture messaging or long messages that don't open or can't be sent.

In retrospect, my iPhone has been the cheapest phone I've ever owned. Only phone I've been able to take back to the company and they fix the problem no charge. They also hold their value and you can sell your old iPhone for the contract price of a new one with little hassle.
Other than service, I haven't spent anything on my phone since the initial cost of the 4S.

If everyone thought about it this way apple and Google wouldn't have the money they did now. There's always money to throw around even the low and middle class trend with phones as symbols of their wealth.
I believe after every 3 releases of your generation of phone should be updated then and only then.

I need a phone... in the past two years I've had a Iphone4(great little phone, only 8 gb and cant work with my current provider[need at least a 5]), Blackberry piece of shit from 2007, a Sony Xperia Z(really liked this phone a lot and was actually really reliable), Nokia Lumia 1020 (POS, Microsoft is simply garbage)
My current provider is Wind, so only phones that operate on T-mobile's frequences (AWS 1700/2100) will work.
Pretty all the latest samsung phones work, I think all the Xperia's do too, and all Iphones.
I just need something that has either an sd card slot or some serious storage(32GB and up) and most importantly something that will not be obsolete for a long time, I'm talking about my phone still getting updates in 2016.
Also this unreliable, always having problems with my shit needs to stop. It's getting to the point where you have to ask if they test these things out.
Android and Windows are terrible about supporting phones with firmware updates, so if you guys recommend an android make sure it gets updates regularly and consistently.

The new iPhone 6 combined with iOS 8 will take a big chunk out of Android phones.
Most people want Android's big screen which Apple doesn't have, but the new iPhone will level the playing field.
A very small percentage desire more customization, iOS 8 is taking big strides to address some of those desires.
But perhaps the biggest deciding factor for the majority of Android users is 'price'. Naturally, when the new iPhone comes out the prices on current phones will drop (as is usually the case on new releases). Specials will also make the iPhone FREE with some carriers when signing up.
For me, the most important feature is all about 'apps'. The new apps coming down the pipeline for iOS 8 will be a big step up, further separating the App Store from the Android marketplace (or whatever it's called).
One may argue about which OS or phone is better. But there simply is no competition when it comes to 'apps'.
if I had a penny for every time I heard an Android user complain about not having some of the iOS apps, or the quality.
And we're not even touching on how shitty Android is for your security... wowsers Almost every app sends your information to some server for possible malicious intent and Android allows this shady shit.

it's the same give and take with PC vs. mac.
Macs are controlled environments with specific hardware. They allow far less sh*t to be approved on the app store.
Google's OS can run on just about anything and they let far more sh*t slide on their app store.
On one hand you get more customization options, but on the other hand you get an OS that won't run as smoothly and needs tweaking depending on the device to run optimally. Some android devices flat out suck, while others are good. Some android apps run great on some phones, and like sh*t on others. Iphones are just consistent across the board.

Apple doesn't add features to its iOS because they feel it may risk the user's experience or security. But once they figure out a solution they usually implement them.
A perfect recent example is iOS 8 3rd party keyboard inclusion.
Apple banned it due to security risks such as 'key logging' which is a norm in the android world. But Apple has found a way to allow a safe implement
NFC is a hardware addition that Apple has abandoned for security and performance issues as well. But they might finally implement that on the new iPhone, because they may have a safer solution/implementation.

Apple doesn't put in features in their phones because they are saving it for the following years, fck them.
I have an HTC One from last year and it's still smooth as butter. Rooted and installed a custom rom that is basically stock with crazy customizing ability. Love it's look.
Try changing DPI on an iphone. I am a grown up, I don't need giant icons on a 5 inch screen (OK, 4.7 inch for mine :oldlol: ) to take up space. I am happy having abilities to do whatever I want with my phone.

And you have proof of this because?
Now... there is some financial decisions made as to what makes a version. But more than likely it's simply because they feel the current model will not benefit and may even hinder the overall experience.
They also have to wait on the supply chain and manufacturing side of things. They have to wait for their partners to be able to provide them with the parts needed, and that's been the case in the past. At times their partners simply can't keep up with their demand or there's issues with the production, so they'd rather just wait for the next version. Which is another reason why Apple doesn't leak any info ahead of time.
Why didn't they release 4G phones a few versions ago when a few Android phones had them? simple.... the 4G infrastructure was still young in most markets and only a very small handful of cities had them. Not only would've been useless to have for the very vast majority, at the time the components were bigger and ate up battery life like crazy.
Do we also need to mention 'flash'?
Does anybody remember when people were saying Apple was 'doomed' for not including flash? people were dead serious about this, now it's comical looking back.
