Kevin McHale (36pts/11rebs/3blks, 12/16 FG) vs. Hawks (1987)

The GOAT Post Skill Wise PF!

Kevin McHale doesn't care for the big and athletic Hawks front-court which at times consisted of a center and two legit power forwards (Tree Rollins, Kevin Willis and Cliff Levingston). He'll either find his way in the post and score (just look at that field goal percentage) or get fouled, in which case you might

Look At Those Smooth Moves In The Post

Larry Bird (26pts/15rebs/14asts/3stls) vs. Hawks (1987)

With Larry's usual shots not really falling down, he starts looking more to finding his team-mates. Of course, throwing it in to Kevin McHale in the post is an automatic assist but that's not where all of the 14 assists come from as he had some gems in this one. This is the only time such a stat-line has occurred since 1985. February 3, 1987.

What's striking is that these videos are almost 30 years old yet they look like they're playing a more advanced kind of basketball. A big man with great post skills and passing is rare enough; but 2 of them in the same team?

Jesus Christ...Bird has the most aesthetically pleasing game IMO.

Can't watch 10 seconds of the guy without seeing him make an otherworldly play.

When I play halfcourt pickup, it's always MITI. In that case, I'd say Bird's team is favored.

That said, Kobe is far and away the best one-on-one player in that discussion, and in 2v2 or 3v3, the team that normally wins is the one with the best 1v1 player.

Whats striking compared to today is how weak the defenses were in the 80s. The game has evolved and defenses are much much better today.
