Heat sign guard Shannon Brown

Shannon Brown is joining the Heat. (USATSI)
The Miami Heat have signed veteran free agent Shannon Brown, his agency announced on Wednesday. The combo guard's contract is for one year and $1.3 million, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

Brown signed with the New York Knicks in late February and spent summer league with them, helping new head coach and ex-Lakers teammate Derek Fisher implement the triangle offense. New York decided to release him afterward, though, and he'll give the Heat some extra depth in the backcourt.

With Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole and Shabazz Napier at point guard, Miami probably doesn't need him to play much at that position. The 28-year-old's best chance to break into the rotation is probably to take some of the backup shooting guard minutes that went to Ray Allen last year. He's obviously nowhere near the shooter that Allen was, but he's a etter defender at this stage of their respective careers.

He can be a shorter lightskin Lebron with less muscle

He can shoot the ball and he has hops, he pretty much sucks at everything else though.

no pun intended

Inconsistent as hell.

If you just get it to him for a wide open 3, he makes them at a solid rate (like most NBA guards). His shooting was fine in the triangle, the one year he played next to Nash, he shot pretty well from 3, efficiency and production dropped on a horrible suns roster. Couldn't crack the Spurs or the Knicks rotation, but he did shoot 42% from 3 in NY :confusedshrug:

He's your average 3rd string guard.

He shot 42% FG% overall and attempted no 3's during his NY stint. After he left the Lakers, anyone who watched him knows that he bricked a lot of threes when he was on the Suns with Nash. Let me repeat that. With Nash.

After Nash left, he shot 27.7% from 3 (39 for 141)...

Those are mostly Bron fan boys and other haters of the Heat. Anyone who has a clue knows they'll be fine with the roster they have. Still need some more 3 point shooting, but it's still a good enough squad to compete for their division and a Top 4 seed.

Plus, it's the East. If your a healthy squad you should be fine, but that's not exactly in Miami's favour either.

I'm actually really excited to see Bosh this year. I think he's gonna do great with a much increased role on offense. Should be interesting to watch.

Why does Riley keep adding these high profile players? He knows LeBron is gone right?

Lol no he's not. And it's a non guaranteed deal. It's essentially a tryout. An invite to camp. He's battling Reggie Williams for a roster spot.

Be prepared to see his defense go down if his offense goes up.

I expect bosh to have a great year.

Something in the realm of 22/8.

If wade stays healthy, it would be hilarious to see this team knock off the cavs :lol

There is a much better chance that they knock off the Bulls. :lol
But in all seriousness, the Heat are going to be terrible this year. Bosh is gonna be the biggest waste of 120 million the NBA has ever seen.

He's a complete shell of his former self. Only reason he stuck in the league last season was because how much of a joke the Knicks were.

Dude fell off hard after he left the Lakers.
Why does all of Kobe's teammates in the post Shaq era except for Trevor Ariza and Caron Butler, all had their best years there with the Lakers go on to suck right after they are gone from the Lakers?
