Because PER was made up by a stat nerd that wanted drones to follow it and make him some money.

PER doesn't exist before 77-78. basketball.reference.com just calculates it as if blocks, steals, turnovers, offensive rebounds are all zero before then (which hurts Russell, Wilt, Kareem a ton...we speculated about this last month, it probably adds 3-5 PER.

They didn't record steals or blocks back then. You can ONLY compare players in the same era when it comes to PER. It doesn't translate across eras.

Sounds like a load of Bullshit.

Regardless you have guys like Magic and Bird being behind guys they have no business being behind in anything having to do with Basketball.

Really flawed stat measuring tool, yet people love to ignore to the gaping faults.

Wilt & Kareem didn't get too affected by it, 5th & 11th isn't that far off from where they usually rank all time. 95th for Russell though, you just know your formula doesn't work

it was never meant to compare players from different eras or even teams... If you use it to compare players even if they played in the same era you're using it wrong...

it was originally meant to see how changes within a teams system effects the players on that team or how moving a player to a different position or tweaking his role effects that player alone or the others around him

it has so many numbers involved and it's such a complicated formula it's idiotic to even begin to use it as some form of giant rate all rating tool...

rlsmooth775

PER shows the greatest individual players don't let team success fool you into thinking a certain player is being snubbed

well theres only a few "amazing players that come around every 20 or 30 years

i'l admit zeke isnt a top 3 player ever.. sure

who the **** said that?

but hes top 20

how many legit small point guards lead their teams to multiple nba titles?

and its not like he wasnt putting up sick numbers during his prime. like 20+ and 10 assists

he was a baller. tough as nails. one of the bad boys. and had one of the most inspiring performances in finals history. only to be robbed of the championship with a bogus call at the end of the game in 1988

pistons are the real champs that year. i saw the game. im a lakers fan. i dont care. it was rigged

Kobe woulda taught CP3 how to be a champion. Definitely would had a ring by now if not for the Veto. Now? He's stuck babysitting Blake Griffin until he enters his prime, by this time he'll be exiting his, so as Admiral Ackbar would say "It's a Trap!!!!"

Kobe shoots more than Lebron , but no one has more ball usage than LBJ.

LBJ ball consists of watch me dribble at the top of the key , try to bulldoze my way to the basket, kick it out for the bailout.

Call me when Lebron can take the likes of Chris Mihm, Smush Parker and Kawame Brown to the playoffs in the West.

Not every player can afford to switch to stacked teams at his whim like Lebron. IN THE WEAK EAST.

Lol I proved kobe was more ball dominant. The west wasn't that dominant in 2006 why couldn't the great kobe bryant elevate the lakers they were the same level as the clippers in 2006 :lol

15/22/4 + best defensive player in the league + 11 rings = 95th best ever

  :bowdown:And... 15 ppg, where does that put Mr. Russell in the rankings? Does that mean we should ignore ppg also? PER like all other stats need to be taken within context.

edit: also a lot of stats weren't taken in Russell's time (like bpg) so that affects his PER.

career per

1. Michael Jordan* 27.91

29.1 PER when only looking at the Bulls years, which means he blows everyone away...

And all the other categories also go up (i.e. 120 career Ortg... completely ridiculous 0.274 WS/48 - 2nd place is far behind).

Maybe before he came back with the Wizards, he had calculated that he could still be #1 all time even WITH a couple old man years thrown in the mix... give everyone a chance..

Should you be top 10 if you never lead the league in PER

So Hakeem, Kobe, Magic, Duncan and Russell arent top 10 players according to u:roll:

who do u have in ur top 10? DROB? Barkley? Mailman? Neil Johnson? Wade?

PER is one of the most overhyped statistics ever.

Here's the problem - People want to have ONE statistic to rank players all-time and currently in the league; such statistic does not exist.

If you people really care about the stat, I guess CP3 is the GOAT PG and ahead of Magic all-time. Wade, Barkley and Neil Johnson were better players than Kareem. Kevin Durant > Magic, Bird, Russell

Except, presumably, for Wilt, if they counted blocks... I've read somewhere officials believe he and Russell averaged 6 to 8 blocks a game... for their careers. Wilt has recorded long stretches of over 8 bpg, iirc.

It sounds crazy until you remember that Mark Eaton averaged 5.5 as late as 1985.

There's a good chance Wilt is the actual PER record holder.

Why is kobe compared with these guys

Because John Hollinger's self-created mathematical equations do not define an athlete.

If you legitimately don't believe Kobe is one of the best players to ever play, you're as ignorant as they come. It's one thing to dislike a player/person, but to completely disrespect their greatness is some nonsense with an agenda.
