C- Asik
PF- Davis
SF- Evans
SG- Gordon
PG- Holiday
Bench
Anderson
Salmons
Ajinca
Rivers
That will be the likely rotation in the playoffs. Very solid team.
Have a look at that frontline  Asik and Davis protecting the basket? Ridiculous.
Asik and Davis work so hard and they hustle their ass off. Solid team that will surely go close to a playoff berth.
Since their aren't many New Orleans fans, I thought I might bring this thread to discussion...

I could be wrong but imo it's near impossible to have chemistry with Gordon/Tyreke/Holiday on the floor at the same time. They either need to let Evans be the primary ball handler off the bench or trade him or Gordon.
The team talent wise could be the 2nd best team in the East imo but they will be fighting for the 8th seed in the West. Holiday and Evans defesnively if you pair them is very beast in particular with Davis/Asik backing them up, there defensive potential imo if they focus on it could be great. They need a sniper shooter at SF imo like a Korver.

even with AD playing out of his mind they have no shot at playoffs. Holiday Gordon and Evans together on a team :facepalm

My interest in the NBA expands outside of one player or team.

The starting lineup looks good on paper.
But can this team stay healthy, which has been a problem, and will they begin playing defense? This team was ranked the 25th worst in defensive efficiency last season, even with one of the premiere shot blockers in the league.
Obviously Asik helps their interior defense, but is it enough to make a dramatic improvement or are the perimeter players just too poor and uncommitted defensively?
And besides Ryan Anderson coming off NO's bench, the remaining bench players don't exactly look imposing.

they need more shooters and off-the-ball players to space the floor.

That backcourt, as a unit, is terrible.
Holliday is the only one worth a damn out there.
They need to trade Gordon at any cost.

They needs to make Tyreke the starting SG and trade Gordon for a starting SF

not impressed.
AD is my favorite "superstar", along with Rose. But this Pelicans core is a mess

This is exactly what I think. Anderson is a really cool fit because he can play next to either Asik at C, or next to AD at C, and make a dynamic scoring lineup. And just watching AD in these international exhibitions, he seems more and more comfortable starting at C, and you may wind up with that lineup a lot.
But you are right. The bench is attrocious beyond that. I've always liked the idea of a Tyreke as a super bench guy (in fact I've liked that for most high usage type SFs or Big SGs who take a lot of shots, like Bonzi Wells, or even like Manu, who's sort of like that, and I think Dion Waiters should've been heading that way prior to this roster change). But there's no one to replace him with.
A shooter like Korver, as mentioned, that would turn Tyreke into the sub at all three perimeter spots, would be a dynamic change to this team.
There's almost no way they're ideal lineup stays healthy enough for an entire season.

That team looks good individually but they don't fit at all. AD is a C.

That back court has talent but all 3 need the ball in their hands to be effective. They should trade 1 for off the ball players and shooters, would have to be Jrue or Tyreke since Gordon won't have any value.
Maybe one of them for Calderon, Shumpert and Larkin.

Someone mentioned Korver and I agree. I think a 3 and D guy would fit the starting lineup. I agree, they need to get rid of one of their dominant ball handlers.

Going to be honest, never been all that high on Gordon. Not a huge Jrue fan either. I don't think this team is making the playoffs in the West.
Not sure if Anderson is going to stay on this roster. That trade for Asik was rumored for awhile, but now New Orleans has both, and has too many frontcourt players, with not enough minutes to be allocated. I expect him to be moved before the season begins.

I expect Anderson to be traded by the all-star break. Pelicans are looking to do that right now actually.

Two factors OP is not looking at
Team Chemistry
Coaching
Those two can be the difference between contending for a title and being in the lottery. They have the talent, but the core is rather young. I feel like they can't play good defense as a unit on a consistent basis.

Interesting.
I know the failed Houston rumour, what have you read?
I don't know why they want to get rid of him, they need him.

Lakers might try pick up Anderson, stretch the floor?
If they do make the playoffs, that won't be the starting rotation
They'll be lucky to have 2/5 of those guys actively playing.

I think it comes down to how much they're paying a guy to come off the bench to simply shoot threes at the PF slot.
While he's probably the third best PF to do that behind Dirk and Love, $8.5 million is still a lot for that.
Reports are several teams are interested in obtaining Anderson, but the Pelicans are reluctant to let go of him (I suppose for good reason).
They'll probably make a choice on keeping him or not by the trade deadline to see how the team does together.

If they did this i wouldn't understand why. Pick him up to do what? Still miss the playoffs?

the line up of holiday, gordon, evans, davis, anderson was great on offense last year. they fit just fine together. they scored 125 points/100 possessions. thats a great number, they just didnt play them together all that often.

Without looking at the Numbers, if they could swing a deal like this, I'd be willing to give up Jrue, who I'd guess has the highest value of the three, for it.
Calderon replaces him at the point, and gives you way more spacing. And sure he gives up a ton on D, but the spacing helps you to play the two bigs together. And Shumpert would fit better in the starting lineup than Tyreke, who's obviously a better player in a vaccuum, but now you'd be able to brind Tyreke off the bench almost at any of the three perimeter positions. You could put Tyreke out there with Anderson and Calderon to space around him and run extended stretches of offense around AD and Tyreke PnR and still have all those shooters to work off of him.
I'm not sure the Knicks would do it with the new leadership. But just a year ago this definitely would've been the type of move the Knicks would be willing to do. Multiple pieces for a single better asset.

That's a not a very solid team. If they are, it means Davis has taken the next step in his development and is literally winning them games with scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, etc... Asik will rebound and defend, nothing much on offense. Evans isn't great at the 3 and doesn't have a shot. Gordon scores and not much else. Holiday should have a bounce back year.
Their bench doesn't look that impressive at all, outside of Anderson but he missed a lot of time last year. Not sure where he's at mentally. Salmons is done. Rivers isn't at all productive. Ajinca doesn't play much, but he should be better.
Still a year or two away, IMO. It all depends on Davis's improvement.
