Yeah I remember I literally jumped out of my seat when I saw him go for it. Very disappointing outcome though, and since it was Josh Smith who's not exactly known for his bball IQ, it is just considered another blunder of his to laugh about in hindsight. Ultimate risk for reward factor, crowd would have went nuts and that might be considered one of the greatest playoff dunks ever had he made it.

I'm not shocked that this happened, because Smith missed a shitload of dunk attempts in the dunk contest before.Not to be a stickler, but Josh Smith actually has a pretty solid dunk contest completion percentage. I believe he made all of his dunks on the first attempt during his victory in '05 then missed just two attempts in '06 (two-handed alley-oop 360 over a leaning teammate). In comparison to the Nate Robinsons of the world, Smith has done pretty well in regards to making his dunks.

That said, perhaps you were just thinking of his 2006 tape dunk, where he placed a piece of tape well behind the free throw line and proceded to complete a dunk that had absolutely nothing to do with the tape itself, leaving people disappointed and shaking their heads (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ute5oKE2GUo).

Yep, just wanted to say the same, that after missing between the legs and opposing defender quickly approaching he goes and does a windmill like it's nothing. Takes some balls to do that in a game, imagine if he would miss the windmill aswell, that would be so emarassing.
