since they both seem to get eviscerated for their D, who would you rather have on a team?

i actually like both but i'll side slightly towards love here unless you need a playmaker/1B on the offensive end.

i think it's more important to have a true perimeter defender or rim protecting C than anything else.

Love is a pretty good playmaker for his size....but id probably take Harden. IT would be hard to choose between the two but i think Harden can play D if he actually tries...It depends on what my team needs more but if it was 1st round draft id take Harden

Love. I've never been a fan of Harden's style of play that kills the offensive flow.

Give me Love. Harden is the worst defender in the league IMO. Love is a below average defender, which is enough to draw criticism for your D when you are a superstar caliber player otherwise. Harden is talented on offense, but he relies too much on iso and makes poor decisions with the ball.

I agree that the defensive issue is more important up front than on the perimeter. But Love is better defensively than Harden is, even accounting for the differences in what their jobs are. Love is also the best rebounder in the game. And his passing is a plus at his position.

The big thing though to me is that he can still function without the ball, because he can stretch the floor from a front court position. And he can do so at an elite level. Even if his scoring dropped to 18 a game, if he still got 12 rebounds a game, you're talking elite level production, and that's without considering what he's doing to the geometry of the offense by sucking bigs away from the rim.

Both are best suited as 2nd options but I think Love's game is a more natural fit to that role. Harden's ball dominant style makes him a bit paradoxical in that regard. If one of those guys HAD to be my 1st option, I'd probably go with Harden. As a 2nd option it's Love without question.

And you'd be an awful GM. Bosh is the only guy you bolded who would even have a remote argument over Love in terms of on-court impact. Also, people placing Davis at the top of the PF list already need to check their expectations at the door, otherwise they're setting up a very good young player for potential failure.

He's an incredible talent that I do expect to eventually get there, but his game still has a ways to go when it comes to refinement.

Right now, I'd take Love, LMA, Griffin and maybe Bosh over him.

I think current league makes it easier for a stat padding perimeter player to make the playoffs (since he can create for himself and his teammates) than a stat padding big man.

Harden is capable of playing defense, I've seen him do it when he was on OKC and had to earn his minutes. He has been handed the key to Houston which is why he's stopped playing it, and focuses all his energy on offense. Love has shown no signs of leadership, but I think he would be a much better #2 than Harden could be.

Time will tell, but as of now I'll take Harden. And I don't even like the guy.

when players come out and say that they go for certain stats, like FG%, rebounds, etc. and they constantly check their stats after every time out. Then it's pretty clear those are the stat padders.

Harden was able to take that rockets team in 2013 to the playoffs pretty much on his own.

But i still think Love is better, he just needs to be a 2nd/3rd option instead

Hell no. Rockets had Parsons, Delfino, Lin, PP, Morris, Smith, Asik...they weren't filled with superstars but they were pretty deep and they ran and shot the three like crazy.

That team was a LOT of fun to watch.

2012/13 Houston > 2013/14 Houston

Parsons was in his 2nd year, lin was average at best, and the rest were trash. Wasn't smith injured most of the time too?

Holy trash, Batman!

ISH underrated Harden pretty badly IMO. Dude has flaws, but his ability to ruin defenses single-handily is not to be dismissed.
