Was it because he was gay and the players were freaked out in the locker room? As far as I knew, he played well and even sacked Manziel.
Shit storm coming.

From what I know, NFL locker rooms can be very abusive and harassing. Look at Richie Incognito and them boys.
I wonder if the players went at him.

expected, he was drafted in the 7th round. Obviously he lacked the speed, strength and size necessary to excel at an NFL level at the position of DE
so many people who dont watch the NFL dont realize that college - NFL is a huge transition. There are heisman level players in college that arent bench players in the NFL.
:lol at the homophobes happy he is cut.
"OH noes what if a gay man succeeds in pro sports"

Didn't he get 3 sacks in the preseason? Don't know why he got cut. He played pretty well

He's good enough to be on a practice squad/special teams on most NFL teams. Someone will pick him up, especially since it comes with the inherent positive press for their organization.

A couple undrafted guys just beat him out for it. Someone else will take a chance on him.

Rams defensive line is probably the best in the league. Also they had another rookie playing the same position as Sam, but could also play special teams.

This. And, he isn't versatile enough or have the size to play any other position on the line.

Against 2nd and 3rd offenses.
He was a 7th round pick, most don't make the team.
STL gave him the opportunity to showcase his skills and now they are being accused of cutting him cuz he's gay. That's why I never would a drafted him in the first place. He's not worthy of being on a 53 man roster, but gay advocates think he is the next LT

michael sam will get picked up by another team that needs a backup pass rusher. the only reason the rams didnt keep him is they are stacked at his position.

No one is accusing them of cutting him because he's gay. Outside of a few delusional people this is pretty much non news. And he'll get picked up, because pass rushing is something that you can use situationally, even if players are undersized.

Lol, I'm not a huge football person but some of these responses are hilariously ignorant.
He was cut because St. Louis has the most depth at DE in the league. He'll get picked up soon and probably contribute throughout the year.

I wouldn't be shocked if Dallas picks him up, we REALLY need DE depth
Jerry isn't scared of media magnets either...and his story as the first openly gay man in the NFL is a great story.
It will give Cowboy haters lots to work with though

Yes, gay players are necessary to hate the cowboys. There's so little there otherwise. :lol

I'm thinking Romo still takes precedence over the situation pass rusher on the practice squad. Just me though..
Tony Homo is lame, he's not gay (although jessica simpson can drive you to that). People need to work harder.

To better evaluate him and see if he was potentially good enough to make the team.
Also to do him a huge favor and allow him to showcase his talent for other potential suitors.
Also to gain some positive exposure.
Also because he is a hometown kid and it would be a nice story
Also because he's pretty good at football

Don't know what kinda favor it was to be drafted to a team he has no chance of making. Seventh round picks do make rosters sometimes. But if this was their most stacked position, that really lengthens his odds of making it.
If he hadn't been drafted he would have been free to sign anywhere he wanted as a free agent and surely would have been able to do so. Might have had a better shot of making a roster.
Certainly wish the best for the kid. But I suspect this could have been a PR stunt that had the league's interests in mind, over the player's. Would have been a big PC hullabaloo among all the fans out there with no lives/hobbies if this guy hadn't gotten drafted. And there could be another player out there who got cut from his team that might have made the Rams if they'd drafted based on football considerations. Guess we'll never know.
At least they bent over backwards to single a guy out for his sexuality though. I guess that's progress. :confusedshrug:

Some team will pick him up and he'll win MVP or some award even though he doesn't deserve it but they will do it because it's good publicity for the NfL and appease the gaylords.

He's probably better off now. He went to a situation where they let him play, had no bullshit at all, and he was competitive with a situation where the linemen were some of the better in the league. It was a good showcase.
If someone else taks him might be the Jets / Raiders and someone says something and instead of playing he's in the midst of a media shitstorm for no reason.

What do you mean? They picked him in the 7th round. How often do you think 7th round picks make the final cut?

he's a distraction. organizations/coaches don't like when media are all asking about the gay guy, or focused on his play because he's gay. they don't want all of the talk after wins and losses to be about Sam just because he's gay. and quite obviously a lot of NFL players and coaches very likely have issues with being in the locker room with a gay guy, they just can't say it.
thats on top of the NFL being a hard as fukk league to make. look at Greg Little and Stephen Hill, both already cut after being promising early rounders out of college.

"why can't you all just see me as michael sam the football player instead of michael sam the gay football player" - michael sam after announcing to the world that he's gay
It's funny how big of a deal this guys sexuality is. Yet teams have scum bags that play Sundays. Who cares if he is vocal about his sexuality. Some Athletes talk and you wonder how they were able to be eligible in big time football programs for 3 years.
As far as Rams he probably was released because they are loaded at DL.
