View Full Version : Pelicans will comfortably make the playoffs

Asik and Davis are an offense's worst nightmare. Couple that with Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke, and Anderson, you have yourself a top-5 seed out in the west. Monty Williams wins COTY.

If Jimmer is given an opportunity to play 20+ minutes a game, I could see them making the playoffs.
Jimmer is the best shooter in the world.

I actually see them squeezing in this year.. i dont know what your definition of comfortably is, but i could see them definitely snagging one of the last couple spots in the west. Breakout year for AD if he's healthy

I hope they do. The Brow needs more exposure to those that hardly ever get to see him play.

There's no comfortably making the West unless you're the Spurs, Clips, or Thunder.
Is gonna be a dog fight for everyone else.
I like the Pelicans lineup and I think it's being overlooked by some because injuries that decimated their lineup last year, but there's no way they comfortably make the playoffs out West. It's just too deep and too strong a conference for any team bar the top 3 to do so easily. It'll be a dogfight that I hope the Pelicans can win (Davis is a monster and it'll be great to see him continue to improve on a bigger stage), but there's too much up in the air for it to be anything but tough

Good defenses fair well in the reg season and their rim protection will probably be the best in the league. Their perimeter defense should be OK, and they have a few weapons on offense too.
Their depth is the problem, but even with that I expect this team to sneak into the playoffs.

They'll be a top 8 offensive team and a top 15 defensive team.
Davis' defense isn't nearly good enough yet for them to be anything better. Will they even be healthy?

This.
I'm excited about the Pelicans this year but making the playoffs out west is never easy, especially if they have a key injury (**cough cough Eric Gordon gets hurt every year and doesn't play through pain cough cough**).

Comfortably, no. The West is arguably even deeper this season.
I would say they are in the same boat as Denver and Phoenix, both should be fighting for a spot to get in the playoffs.

OP is very smart.
It won't be smooth but if we can get our guards sorted out and the focus on Anthony then we'll be good. He is the best player on the team. Shit, he's the best player on team USA right now.
I hope to see more from Rivers as well.

You could put just about any of the playoff bound West teams in the Pels position right there though. It's not that the Pelicans aren't talented enough to be a playoff team, it's that doing so out West is absolutely brutal. One key injury to any of those Western teams from the 4th spot down could be enough to put them in the lottery

Don't worry about him, he's salty because the Nuggets are going to be bad again and nobody is talking about them.
The West is too hard for the Pels to cruise into the playoffs but I think they'll make it. Shame they aren't in the East, they'd be a top 3 team easily.

That's what I thought
I just want people to be held accountable for their stupid posts/threads/predictions
It would cut down dramatically the amount of crap posted on this board. But instead we get homers like you posting unrealistic things just because you are a pelicans fan. If you weren't, you would never put the pelicans anywhere near 5. Hence there is no substance behind your statement. Just pure homerism.
And then if they somehow get 5th you will bump this and proclaim yourself to be amazing. If they don't you ignore the post and move on to your next homeristc prediction and the cycle continues until you by chance get one right.
This all ruins the board for the rest of us. There are many other stupid posters like you posting shitty homer threads all the time. And if I have to win permaban bets to get rid of you all one-by-one, that's what I'll do. This would benefit everyone here.
But of course not a single homer has taken me on my bets (which remember are all based on predictions they made). I'm not surprised at all.

Wait what? You think I'm salty? :oldlol: If I wanted people to talk about the nuggets I can just make 5 daily threads about them. You could not be more wrong if you tried.
Actually if I changed my screename to "nbafan" then you would have no comeback. Proves my point right there.
If he stands behind his word lets do the bet. If not stfu because he's all talk and I'm 100% right.

It's too bad because OP could have just said they would make 8th seed and that's believable and realistic.
But since anyone can post anything at any time why not aim for 5th? When he's wrong no one will ever remember any of this. And then he can do it all over again next year.

How are you not being salty? You're having a meltdown over a guy being a bit of a homer about his own team.

On paper they should have made the play-offs last year. Last season's roster looked like the best Hornets/Pelicans roster in years.

But they got crushed by injury. Holiday and Anderson both missed most of the season, and Gordon was never near 100%, (granted I don't know that he'll ever be very good again).
Add Asik to that and factor in Davis taking another step forward, and it's easy to be optimistic.

Not salty. Unless salty means super annoyed by homers? Then yes. Like I said this has nothing to do with which team I root for. If I was a spurs fan and posted the same, you wouldn't have anything to say apparently.
This board used to be fun to read. Now it's insecure homers making shitty unrealistic threads so they can be like "look at my team and how awesome I think they'll be!!!"

The only stretch the OP made was saying they would do it "comfortably"...everything else is entirely realistic.
Pelicans were devastated by injuries last year..3 of their best players in Jrue, Anderson, and Gordon all missed significant time, and they still won 34 games. If those guys were healthy they could've easily won 40 games. And now they have a legit defensive big to play alongside Davis, which will take their defense to another level.
There's still no guarantee they're all healthy this year..but there's definitely reason to be optimistic. Portland won 33 games and missed the playoffs the year before they won 54 games (tying the 2x champion Miami Heat's record) and made the 2nd round.
If Jrue and Anderson are healthy (not counting on Gordon), Davis takes another step forward, Tyreke can build on the form he ended the season with, and with Asik helping their interior defense/rebounding...48-52 wins is not out of the question..

basically ish goes like this:
stupid homer: here is a stupid thread claiming that my favorite team will win 15 more games and be 4 seeds higher than everyone else thinks! you'll see!!! we are going to be awesome for the following random reasons...herp derp...
me: really? lets bet on the exact prediction you are making and feel so strongly about. be a man and back up your claims.
stupid homer: um....no.
Can we just enjoy a nice Pelicans post as opposed to the walls and walls of Kobe and Lebron stuff that goes on. It's nice to see a promising young team and a potential future MVP on the rise getting some more attention, even if the initial prediction was a bit heavy
