Kareem..both are offensive beasts, but prime Kareem's defensive impact >>>>>> Magic's defense.

Kareem: 6 MVPs, 6 Titles, all-time leading scorer. Better defender.
How is that not close?

Huh?
That would make it 3=3, before the defense, scoring, and longevity advantages come into play. Kareem's performance in a losing effort in the 74 Finals deserves mention as well.

Phrased this way, "who is a better player", it has to be Kareem.
And that's coming from someone who thinks Kareem would have been remembered as a worse loser than Wilt had Magic not come along, and that his lack of leadership is not something you can put in a vacuum and completely isolate from his team's record in the 70s. (Yes, he was surrounded by scrubs, but so were many players who made more out of it)
But Kareem has too many arguments going for him: two way VS one way dominance, ridiculous peak and longevity, better accolades and accomplishments throughout his career.

Kareem. All time leading scorer, defense, MVP's. I love Magic and all he did for the Showtime era, but Kareem clearly.

The history book doesn't show who stole the Finals MVP. It does show Magic winning 3 Finals MVPs.

Fortunately, we have the ability to look beyond the history books, and not take media accolades at face value.

Lets be real, Magic prolonged his career. I have Kareem ranked over Magic slightly because Kareem had a better peak.

My dude, when do you think Kareem retired if Magic never plays for LA?

Kareem has a very strong case as being the greatest player in basketball history (not just NBA history). At his peak he was more dominant than Magic ever was and his longevity is obviously GOAT level. It could also be argued that Kareem actually had a higher BBall IQ, one of Magic's greatest perceived strengths. Kareem's understanding of the game was second to no one.
