Somebody is offended by everything.
We can't change the name of everything that someone is offended by.
Also, the owner of the team gets to decide the name of his team I believe. So if he liked Redskins, they are the Redskins.
If you don't like it, feel free to not attend or watch games.

The native Indians like the name from what I am hearing. They don't have a problem with it because it pays homage to their people.
Once again, this is the white man's idea of trying to get rid of anything Indian.

The PC police in this country is probably led by a bunch of 20-somethings who have no clue about the history of this country and all they are trying to do is rewrite history while coming across as complete douchebags.
The logo was even designed by a Native American. And yes, many Native American tribes in this country do not have a problem with the name or the logo.
Just like Mexicans consider themselves "brown" and even tattoo "Brown Pride" on their body, the Redskin name describes skin color. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nice try. sp*c and Redskin are not the same as you're trying to imply.
The term "sp*c":
****, spick, ****, spig, or spigotty
a. (US) a person of Hispanic descent. First recorded use in 1915. Theories include from "no sp*c English" (and spiggoty from the Chicano no speak-o t'e English), but common belief is that it is an abbreviation of "Hispanic".
Sp*c refers to ethnicity, not to skin color which Redskin refers to.

ESPN already took a poll and 71% is in favor of the name. Dan Snyder owns the team and he likes it too. There will be no changing of the name.
Football fans are pretty hardcore and I don't think anyone will force them to change their name. It is not going to make people stop rooting for the team.

I find it sad that something like this is a non-issue and then we have people that try to turn it into an issue. Suddenly there are so many people with an opinion about it, so they either stand for it or against it. It forces those didn't care before to now care. They are forcing us to choose sides. :facepalm
The Redskins have been in the league for the longest time and why now? Shouldn't it have already been done years ago?
If the NFL players are not offended then I think we should keep the name.

Because you know liberals aren't gonna whine about anything that might offend a white person. It wouldn't be cool and contrarian enough. And you'd probably get a ton of regular white folk who would celebrate it and make them their favorite team. So it's a win all around.
Then the libs will have to pick up their base camp and move it over to Minnesota for using an unacceptable term to describe Scandanavian-Americans.
Or perhaps to Jacksonville for creating the perception that Jaguars are fearsome creatures and dangerous to man, when really that's just a misunderstanding and they need to be protected.
Maybe to New England, where they're just using manipulative propaganda to influence their fans that george bush would be proud of.
Rest assured, they WILL find something. There's always something new to complain about, because it creates a feeling of self-importance and power. This has nothing to do with native americans. It has to do with liberals being bored and wanting to flex their power and showing off their moral superiority. It's a flex move. They don't give a shit about Injuns.

in the espn segment that 9er cited where they recently found that 71% supported the name, they also mentioned that this was down from 80% support just a few years ago. thats a pretty enormous shift, if that poll is representative of the entire american population that would mean ~30 million people have shifted their opinion in the past few years.
so yes, it does seem that we had some sort of recent revelation.

What it means is more people are being guilted by the media's recent focus on it into pretending they care when someone puts them on the spot and asks them about it.
I wonder if you can find the numbers for me about how many Americans are involved in causes that help the real life challenges many native communities face today and how it compares to number from some other year in time.

Liberal America: If you are not offended, we will be offended for you.
Here are similar takes on schools forcing to change their names:
"We have two great tribes here," says Kingston assistant school superintendent Ron Whipkey, "the Chicasaw and the Choctaw. And not one member of those tribes has ever come to me or our school with a complaint. It is a prideful thing to them."
"It's a name that honors the people," says Kingston English teacher Brett Hayes, who is Choctaw. "The word 'Oklahoma' itself is Choctaw for 'red people.' The students here don't want it changed. To them, it seems like it's just people who have no connection with the Native American culture, people out there trying to draw attention to themselves.
"My kids are really afraid we're going to lose the Redskin name. They say to me, 'They're not going to take it from us, are they, Dad?'"
Too late. White America has spoken. You aren't offended, so we'll be offended for you.
Same story with the Red Mesa (Ariz.) High School Redskins. They wear the name with fierce pride. They absolutely don't see it as an insult. But what do they know? The student body is only 99.3 percent Native American.

Remember, the media wasn't what it was 30 or 40 years ago. And many football fans of 30 and 40 years ago are still alive and well.

Someone doesn't understand polling. 9% is such a small shift that it could have been affected simply by the phrasing of the question, or simply be the difference between two separate sample sizes. The only thing the polling data implies is that people in general don't give a shit about bowing to some pc whim and changing the name of their team to appease a bunch of patronising and ahistorical dweebs who blare their pathetic anti-racist ideology day-and-night to make them feel better about their own moral and historical inadequacy. What a load of childish bullshit.

assuming a decent sample size and assuming that the question was worded identically both times (in other words, assuming the pollsters had any clue what they are doing), 9% is not a small shift and is well outside the margin of error.

I really don't think people are offended. It is a bunch of liberals trying to stir up the pot in order to erase any attachment to Native Americans. If the Washington Redskins changed their name, just wait and watch all these schools start to change their names. Next thing you know it, Indians and Chiefs, will soon be gone.
The big plan is get rid of any association with Indians.
It's sad to see the sheeps fall for this.
I am not sure why the Native Americans are not protesting this since so many are proud of that name.
Red skin is a term they use to call the Natives because of their applied, red war paint.

redskins isn't offensive at all imo .. it's highly debatable where the name came from to begin with .. was it used to refer to indians in general ? .. was it used to refer to a specific tribe that used red paint ? .. I've heard all kinds of shit ..
and when you think of 'redskins', you don't even think 'indians' .. you don't use the word to refer to indians or to mock indians or to do anything with indians .. you think 'nfl football team' .. nothing more nothing less .. at this point, trying to change it is just looking for something to get outraged and offended by .. just bullshit
