"Kevin McHale was the best player I ever played against." - Charles Barkley

Nice mix, he had a super soft touch around the rim. Not many bigs these days go for layups after a post move, its either dunk or hook.

In terms of skill I'd say he's the best ever on the low-block (along with Hakeem).

Like I've said before, he could score so quickly down low, immediately after getting the ball, with hooks, crazy layups or turnaround jumpers, that when you add the terrific footwork and fakes, along the length... defenders were simply screwed. He was also very smart at getting to his spots, could hit jumpers and finish on the break.

Shame that his peak lasted so little, due to injury.

Mound...I've always wondered if you're actually the real Chuck sitting behind a keyboard trying to prop up your own legacy... :lol

I wanted to be like Mike when I was starting my hoop dreams.

But

The players that I studied the most (at different times of my life) were McHale and Van Exel.

McHale is like a Kung Fu master that has a counter move for every move. He doesn't look fast, strong, quick, athletic at all. But like the older Kung Fu masters, he moves with precision. He makes you scratch at how simple his moves are, yet they're hard to master.

Im still not sure why more people don't study his game.

Imagine if Griffin had his post game instead of trying to emulate Hakeem?

McHale's post game is more dependent on angles and slithering under, and through defenders. More importantly it requires 'patience' and understanding of the defenders in relation to you and the rim.

To all the young cats reading this....

Im a 5'6 Mexican that used to kill dudes 6'4 in the post using his post game. You'll get people pissed off at you when you embarrass them.
