MANILA, Philippines - Naturalized player Andray Blatche headed back to the US Friday after his stint with the Smart Gilas in the FIBA World Cup to negotiate a new contract with the Miami Heat as a free agent after the Nets declined to re-sign him.

The Miami Heat, which lost LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade last month, are reportedly interested in Blatche who could be a backup to Chris Bosh since he is an offense-oriented center who can play the forward and guard positions as he showed in the FIBA World Cup.

Blatche emerged as one of the dominant players in the World Cup group stages with averages of 21.2 points and 13.8 rebounds in five games, which raised his commercial value as a player and boosted his chances of returning to the NBA.

The Nets had said they are not interested in re-signing him.

The Heat are signing everybody!
This current Heat team is light years deeper than the one that lost in the Finals a few months ago! Anything less than 50 wins and an ECF trip is an absolute failure, and will prove that Lebron was carrying scrubs the last 4 years.

If Wade is actually healthy, we'll finally see Wade vs LeBron in the Playoffs.

haha it's funny cuz now people will be able to use the "Heat won x amount of games without Bron!" in the same way others used "Cavs lost x amount of games when Bron left, they were trash!"

Heat looking v solid, will depend on Wade and Bosh though.

-Blatche can not play guard positions in the NBA

Hmmm...You know if Lebron had stayed, I swear this team would be a serious favorite for a championship if they could avoid the Spurs or Spo fixes the defense.

Good signing. Although, the defense still seems bad. Heat gonna beat the Bulls though.

Can anyone make any excuses for Miami now??

they added 2 all stars (granger, deng) and a 20/10 center in Blatche plus McRoberts as another big

PLUS 2 superstars Wade and Bosh

no excuses......

(chicago, okc, sanantonio, clippers included)

He's going to accept a vet min with the Heat. For that amount is sort of sad that the Nets didn't re-sign him. Still, the Nets have already made it known that the center/PF rotation is already taken by Brook, KG and Plumlee. There simply was no room for Blatche to get any playing time.

Great signing by the Heat. Blatche always had a home in Miami and loves it down there. He really matured in his time with the Nets and he is going to have an immediate impact with the Heat. 8-13 PPG on solid percentages.

Granger is a shadow of himself, deng is becoming similar. Blatche isnt a 20/10 guy at all and wade is always hurt.

It is a year too late. If they amnestied Joel Anthony instead of Mike Miller and signed Blatche...

Deng/Granger vs Lebron/Jones
Bosh/McRoberts vs Love/Thompson
Blatche/Birdman vs Varejao/Haywood

I like the Heat's chances. The Heat would be the deeper team with Blatche.

While I agree that the Heat are the much deeper and talented team, I just can't bet against LeUnderdog. He is so much better than the Heat's best player he will push the underdog Cavs to victory against the stacked Heat.

Your rotations are all ****ed up for Cleveland. Delly is the backup PG for Cleveland this year and is much better than Lucas, especially defensively. Lucas is only there to get traded later on. And did you forget about Shawn Marion? It goes...

Irving/Dellevadova
Waiters/Miller
LeBron/Marion
Love/Thompson
Varejao/Haywood

In actuality if they run a 9 man-rotation Thompson would proably get most of his time at center and Marion at power forward.

I like the Heats depth but depth means little in the playoffs. It all comes down to Wade and Bosh and how they can lead this team on the court.

Yeah but Wade is a shell of himself. 2011 was the best chance of them prime vs prime but he chose to join Wade instead. Thankful for the 2 chips but never wanted him to join us because it would have robbed us of a Wade vs LeBron playoff series.

If they do meet up in the Playoffs, Wade is gonna go all out. It'll be amazing to watch. IMO, Wade will try to prove himself and go all out.

I still wish that Wade had slightly better teams in '09 and '10. Those battles would've been EPIC! Imagine Peak Wade vs MVP LeBron.

One of the greatest matchups in recent NBA history.

If they were with their respective teams, it would've been:
Wade vs ???
Shitmers vs Mo (not getting Irving with LeBron on the team)
Beasley vs LeBron
UD vs ??
Joel vs Varejao

Would still be an EPIC series, but absolute garbage outside the Wade-LeBron matchup.

According to Sam's logic a player should never leave his team no matter how shit it is, and how terrible the management is.

No ... real masucline competitive logic says you don't go to a court to play ball and see the two best players on it playing with each other. The competitive balance is uneven.

The best, most talented player in the world shouldn't be having to team up with the 2nd or 3rd best player at their peaks in order to win.

The best players ideally want to prove either one is better than the other by leading their teams, while out performing the other guy.

I wouldn't expect someone who isn't a competitor to understand. Oh, and Cleveland's managment wasn't bad. Bron had the shit planned to team up with Wade for over a year.

Oh well. It's not like MJ didn't have Scottie/Phil/Rodman/etc.. We've had this debate ~100 times. Stop pretending like LeBron had help in Cleveland. Dude was their top scorer, playmaker, and defensive anchor ('09 and '10). He wouldn't have had the need to team up, if he had better teammates.

Also, your last sentence is idiotic. Why the hell would he play as hard as he did in '10, if he was planning on bolting since the start of the season. You do realize that he had one of his best ever season in '10, right? Probably a top 10 GOAT season. 29/9/8/2/2 on 61% TS in the Playoffs as well.
